Kan Win
Don't forget the death threats. You don't have to be a Mod to get them That's not as silly as it sounds, I was once involved in another forum where some people were involved in threats that we took seriously enough to fold our tent and ride into the sunset. Yep, I remember TLW as well. Great forum for fun and laughter it was 'sceadugenga'. Yours truly, Kan Win
Kan Win
How Does One Become A Moderator For Thai Visa? I was asked, but declined to be in Red. Only in the Photos and Arts btw. We all have our faults and our good points as Mods, it all depends how you read our posts. Actual or between the lines, most miss that one and take the actual and not the tongue and cheek one. dantilley
Have there ever been a mod 'go bad'.......... A few mods have been demoted to become normal posters and then subsequently banned over the years, a guy called "Udon" a few years ago and someone else called "RDN". As a general rule, anyone you see who has the green text "Honorary Member" under their avatar is an ex-mod who has just retired from being a moderator rather than being forced to step down. If you see someone is a moderator for a while and then they're just a normal member one day, but not honorary, then that probably means they were relieved of their duties. A member called "Reimar" is a recent example of this.
Kan Win
They volunteer to serve for a profit making enterprise. Still don't understand why they don't get a cut of George's pie... I Kan as I do it for 'ThaiVisa' for free as they have helped a lot of folks throughout the years that they have been on line. They have helped me a bit and with my knowledge of Thailand I do try and help other members along the way. Some come back and say others never do, now that really hurts me, taking my time out and then the 'Silence'. Sad that members ask and they get the info, but the Mods get <deleted>....................... now that is the real world of being a Mod. Mossfinn
They volunteer to serve for a profit making enterprise. Still don't understand why they don't get a cut of George's pie... As touched upon by Kanwin, a whole group of people on here have been helped by a varied mix of posters with a kaleidoscope of abilities, unfortunately there are those that Troll, shout, misdirect and on the whole just disrupt the overall well meaning of the general populace. Hence you need Mods, because without them the place would degenerate and it would not be the information exchange it presently is, so I would suggest the Mods do it out of a sense of wanting to keep the information on the right track and be helpful, as I suggest they were helped previously. Jingthing
Although I have had more scrapes with mods than I would like, and sometimes I feel unfairly, I recognize and appreciate the need for mods here. Otherwise the board would be overrun with spam, porn, flames, libel, and worse and would be shut down quite quickly. chiang mai
I suspect the most difficult part of moderation duties must be in managing the balance between posts by members and those of forum sponsors and it's frequently difficult to get that right! Lite Beer
.Can anyone tell me what is Trolling, because i don't know. Trolling can be defined as the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion. Tywais
Can anyone tell me what is Trolling, because i don't know. A member since 2007 and don't know? Sounds like trolling to me. From the rules: Trolling can be defined as the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion. cognos
The simple answer to how I became a mod: George asked me. The long answer? Show you are a reasonable sensible person, not giving to baiting, flaming, nastiness, trolling and general hate mongering. Show a concept of why the rules are in place and why they need to be enforced. Behave like a civilized human being with good manners and maybe we will punish you enough to subject you to the general abuse and nastiness that some people feel is part and parcel of being a member of a forum. I knew you had to be a friend of George's..I'm hooped..I stopped drinking
cognos
And this is why they never last. Some people just can't help themselves and have to start discussing each and every individual moderator action. Pity that. I had a recent post pullled, because it was not "Thai related"..well was it? It was about my Thai wife being angry at me for smoking (pot) and drinking beer, and she told me( we are in Vancouver right now) that if she could, she would take the next plane back to Thailand. I quit both substances immediately that day she threatened to leave(about 22 days ago), and miss neither substance in the slightest, but I sure would have missed HER. It SEEMED Thai related, as the Thai almost flew to Thailand ASAP. A Thai person saying she is going to Thailand is not Thai related?? I'm not smart enough to be a MOD, thats for sure ( or for chure as the Thais say )
