Apparently, bamboo cloth and clothing is all the rage in the US.

A few years ago I saw a merchant selling bamboo clothing at the San Kampaeng Saturday walking street. She told me it was made locally. Sorry I don't have any more specific or up-to-date info. But you could give San Kampaeng a try on a Saturday - it's a much more calm alternative to the walking streets in Chiang Mai.
