Is it mandatory for all manufacturers of packets of crisps, nuts and similar snack items to industrially glue their packets shut?

Either I am losing my strength, but throughout the rest of the world, it's a cinch to open up a pack of "whatever" by gently pulling across the laminated seal and it easily pops open. Here, you need a blow torch to even make a dent. What gives? :)

So, even the dam_n chip packages are harder to open in Thailand? Another nail, another fuc_kin nail. When will them dam_n Thais learn it doesn’t pay to keep screwing with the farangs.

I'm not sure anyone seals with glue; aren't all packets heat sealed?

Anyway, it was just an observation that amused me and not intended to be a slight. :)

Didn't actually take it as a slight. But I do have to ask how in many other countries have you opened a bag of crisps?

TH

It's to make them childproof! Obviously in your case it works very well.biggrin.gif

I don't know exactly how some of the older residents of the realm get on.

Packaging here is not exactly user friendly.

But then you don't want air geting in and finding your crisps all soggy either.

And then they put their goddamned Thai labels over the instructions in English.

The trick is to tear ACROSS the seal, then rip the side out of the pack.

This gives easy access to the crisps for the 400 family kids who will teleport into your vicinty when the pack is opened :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

My technique is to hold each side of the package, making sure to hold onto the overlap seam on that side and jerk very hard. With luck it will give way without tearing the whole thing apart and spilling the crisps every all over the place. If that does happen I just walk away and let the kids and animals clean it up.

It really is the end. :)

Are they heat sealed ? This can be much stronger than glue as they are physically melted together.

It 's much stronger - crisp packets in Thailand are either induction sealed (low freq rf energy) if the packet is a foil packet, or ultra-sonicaly sealed (sound freq) if its a plastic packet - stronger, more reliable, quicker and cheaper.

...and what about condoms?! When you're in the heat of passion, and you have to open one of those slippery little boxes. There's no tab to pull. If you have an eyetooth like a weasel, maybe that will work. Otherwise, you can prance out of bed over to your trousers and get your ring of keys. Fumble around and find the sharpest key and whack in to the little box. Hopefully you won't also tear in to one of the condoms.

Then, if you're really conscientious, you can take out the folded paper instructions and then back to your trousers to get your reading spectacles (or monocule, as the case may be), and make sure you're complying with the manufacturer's recommended procedures for use. You may also read the fine print, to see whether the condom has been properly tested, and then you may wonder who pre-tested it.

Then hop back in the sack and hope your gal (and your willie) is still in the mood.

Well, seeing as you asked so nicely and it's clearly of interest to you, fifty-six countries to date- counting. I rather like my bar/beer snacks. :)

And you think they do something different with them in Thailand?
