Thinking of visiting phi phi for a few days next week. Can anyone tell me what its like? What is there to do there? How does it look after the tsunami?

Any info would be appreciated.

That pic is from Maya Bay. Where the beach was filmed. I still think that Phi Phi is still fukced after the tsunami. But i havent been there since last year. Maybe someone will have better info for you. Someone else said the same on another thread. I think there is only 1 or 3 places to stay at thye moment. But i may be well wrong.

Saw a program on MTV detailing the re-building of the Tsunami in the Phi-Phi area. It is still in a state of reapir but the good news is that there aren't many tourists there, which means Maya Bay is virtually deserted where it was previously packed with tour boats.

If you want to see Phi Phi, go now. They need your money and you'll be able to view some of the beautiful scenery before the tour boats get going again.

A friend was there a couple of weeks ago and he said the beaches were nice, water clean etc but on the bad side theres loads of building and theres a massive pile of uncollected rubbish and debris at one end of the sand bar.

Go to Koh Lanta and visit on a day trip i reckon.

Euan,

I would say the west coast is more beautiful than the east, there's more limestone cliffs in evidence and the sea is an emerald green colour. Samui/Phangan does have some nice spots but if you want scenery, go west.

Phi Phi / Krabi / Phanga has the most beautiful postcard-like scenery in Thailand.. That is just the way it is - this does not necessarily mean you will have a better holiday in the Andaman than in the Gulf though... although my guess is that the Gulf is pretty packed since many people will avoid Phuket and Krabi at the moment (wrong/right?)...
