I use AirAsia a couple of time a year and feel their cabin crew are far less able than 'real airlines'.

My recent trip from BKK to KL on AirAsia was disturbed by two 'passengers' (I presume off-duty cabin crew) who decided to have their own little party at the front of the plane. The cabin crew on duty seemed terrified of these two guys and did nothing when they decided to use the PA system to tell other passengers to remain seated while the seatbelt sign was illuminated.

I wonder what would happen if there was an emergancy and who would take charge....

Has anyone else witnessed similar lack of service with AirAsia?

Fly cheap get cheap! As we say in the UK " You pay peanuts! You get monkeys " I stopped using the budget airlines as they don't tend to be that much cheaper and the quality of cutomer service is pityful.

Flown air asia 5 times in the last 10 weeks, as good on board service as you can expect for a budget airline, try flying quantas , bearded, grumpy rather strong smellingcabin staff andthat was the women :)

I genuinely think it's a "time issue".

Most flights are short haul with AA, and the crew just throw things at you so they get around all passengers before landing. Strangely enough, the same has happened to me with 'proper airlines'.

On a long haul flight, bigger plane, more crew, more time and so a more acceptable standard........both with AA and 'propers'.

We've veered off track slightly here, we all know that you get what you pay for.

I think the OP was more concerned that 'passengers' were allowed to make announcements over the intercom and order other passengers around. I doesn't matter who they are, even if senior airline staff, when the flight is in the air the aircraft crew are the boss.

I regularly fly long distance. I have flown KL to Stansted 3 times with Air Asia X.

I find with 'premium' or 'legacy' carriers, the cabin crew are very professional. They have clearly been thoroughly trained. This makes them appear less friendly or approachable. They have very little time to spend on passengers' requests and will often employ the 'just a moment' tactic and then ignore the request. I find they know how to deal with difficult passengers with the minimum of fuss or drama.

With Air Asia X cabin crew, I find them to be trained in a completely different manner. You might expect them to be very busy and have no time for anyone as they have a full jumbo jet. However, I have found them to be very friendly and willing to engage the passengers. Admittedly this could be as they work on a commission basis for in-flight sales.

I was even more surprised at their tolerance with difficult passengers. There was one guy on one of my flights who was clearly strange and did announce to anyone who wanted to listen that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, a diagnosis he pooh-poohed. If he had been flying on a legacy carrier, I'm sure he would have been told to sit and then pretty much ignored by the cabin crew. However, on Air Asia X to Stansted, the flight attendant put up with him for at least 40 minutes as he slowly trapped in a corner in the galley and then started grabbing and stroking at her legs and still she and her colleagues did nothing. I was flabbergasted. Definitely some assertiveness training required for the female staff. In the end, I accidentally on purpose walked in between them to give her a chance to make a break for it. But I was amazed at their tolerance for this kind of behaviour which cabin crew should not have to put up with.

I've flown Air Asia many times, always with good results but also always on short hauls (Bkk to Hkt for example), never on the long haul or international flights. When a flight is barely an hour there is hardly time for service anyway!

Always fly AA BKK-CNX, never had anything other than a good flight every time, at a price that is way below their competitors. Before AA came along, I used Thai and watched it get steadily worse.

That wasn't "passengers' making announcements, that was the new AirAsia in-flight entertainment program :) .

you beat me too it, was my first thought as well

Agreed, along with a certain other big carrier with the initials AA. What a terrible service between Hawaii and LA on a crap bird with miserable grannies as trolly-dollies.

Perhaps the dudes messing around at the front were in fact the driver and conductor :)

Nope, I've flown Air Asia lots of times and I've never had a problem with the cabin crew.

I have just completed ten flights with Air Asia, all on time, and no problems with service or anything else on any of the flights.

The cabin crews were efficient and attentive, not to mention so good to look at :-)

For the price I thought the overall experience was brilliant and, would certainly fly with them again. :)
