I'll start with two recomendations.

The first is Big Mamas Italian Restaurant located on the soi connecting Sukhumvit 19 with Asoke. Travelling up Suk 19 away from Sukhumvit, turn right at the first junction, Big Mamas is on the right about 100 metres before you reach Asoke. The food really is delicious, 400 baht per head excluding wine will give you a feast.

I'm not a share holder, my recommendation is purely mercenary, I live close by and would like to see the restaurant do well and stay open for ever and ever.

The second is a duck and pork restaurant on Thonglor, I don't know the exact name. The restaurant is about 300 yards from Sukhumvit on the left side just as the road doglegs to the right, next door is a small bakery shop. The duck and red pork here is unbelievable, try it with a plate of freshly steamed Pak Anar.

Enjoy.

SECONDED! Big Mama's is truly my favourite pizza joint in town. I too live nearby and often get a takeaway, and the place is great for dining in too. Great food at affordable prices in nice surroundings - what more could you want?

If you are into Japanese food, Fuji Restaurant (lots of bamboo in the decor) is pretty good. There is a couple in Pattaya, one at the Big C. It's a chain I think.

I like Cabbages and condoms. There are many around the country.

I like the Italian on soi 31 Suk.

I like Himachali Cha chas on soi 35 or 37.

The Italian on soi 49 is also great.

I like the one with a big cock ouside on Thong Lor.

I think that Fuji is to Japanese Food what Sizzler is to steak! :D

For those of you that like non spicy Thai Food, try Harmonique (Charoen Krung 34), located in an old chinese house with outside seating also.

Roselamon restaurant (Soi Asoke) serves high quality traditional Chinese Food.

Don´t forget Rioja (Spanish Restaurant) at Sukhumvit 91 for a taste of real Spanish Food.

...and of course Soi 38 for superb street thai food! :o

So...isn´t it stating the obvious a waste of time and forum space?

No. It's obvious that your logic is flawed, not to you of course. [go away, you're bothering me] But from where I sit, your crap is a waste of this forum's space so I'll end it here.

Now, now ladies.

I believe the point that Bull was trying to make was that in his opinion the food at Fuji's could not be considered great Japanese food.

XYZ didn't say the food at Fuji's was great, he said it was merely "pretty good".

Since XYZ is clearly into Japanese food and Fuji's is the best he has experienced to date, can any one including Bull give XYZ a heads up where he can experience great Japanese food so we can all give it a try and XYZ can see what he is missing?

Neeranam, if you think Opera on Suk 49 is great, you gotta try Big Mammas. I lived on Suk 49 for 5 years and went to Opera many times, admittedly the ambience between the restaurants is different (Opera wins on that front) but for food quality Big Mammas home cooking wins hands down for me.

Neeranam, apologies, Opera is on Suk 39 , I lived on Suk 39 for 5 years, it's an age thing.

Is opera an italian, if so, is it expensive?

Hi Neeranam,

Yes, L'Opera is an italian restaurant, well it always was. I haven't been for a while but for price it is more expensive than Big Mamas, I would expect 400 Baht at BMs would be nearer 1000 Baht at LO.

Give BMs ago, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Malc

I think I will give Big Mommas a go next time in Bangkok in a month or two.

I have some business at Asok, and of course there is a new Underground there, I here.

I love Italian food, especially a good pizza.

If anyone goes to khon kaen, there is a new Italian Rest, the first ever, I think, opposite my wife's rest, which isn't good for her business.
