Learning Thai

Featured Replies

Hi

I very much want to speak thai but find it difficult.

I have pimsular thai on mp3 ,

Looking for rosetta stone Thai . I have tried 6 hours to get it online but have given up.

Does anyone have it I could borrow or trade for Pimsular Thai language?

any help is appreicated.

Thank you

I wouldn't say worthless... but still not going to teach you much...

I would say the only way to really learn is to do face to face courses...

I did this...

I got a Thai Childrens alphabet book, and learnt all of the consonants... very important...

I learnt to say each of the consonants... goor gai, koor kai... etc...

I printed out the book for Rosetta Stone in english and Thai... you will not hear through earphones or speakers the different sound of different letters, you need to read the Thai script at the same time... there is no english script on screen, so without the english book (pdf file on the CD) you won't know whether the boy is on the plane or the plane on the boy???

Also found that "Thai for Beginners" by Poonsomething Becker helped...

still don't get much past nguu nguu plaa plaa...

Cheers,

Daewoo

Yeah I agree about Rosetta Stone, I had it when I was learning Bahasa Indonesian and it was ok so I bought the Thai version thinking it would be ok but I was mistaken.

The book I used to get most of the basic language together was "Teach Yourself Thai" by David Smyth, that was actually quite good. Theres a version with the Audio CD's and one without, make sure you get the CDs to help with the tones and then just use it in practise with some locals. You can get it from Amazon.com for about $50 with the CDs.
