My wife is inThailand to visit mother etc and has renewed her passport while there. Slight problem in that she is now married to my good self and her new passport is her new married name. Her return ticket with Thai Airways was obviously booked in her previous name as per her old passport is this going to cause a problem when checking in for her return? She will have both old and new passports with her and the old one was still in date and carries her ind def leave to remain stamp etc. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

She'll need to show both passports at checkin and when passing Immigration.

Thank you for your reply. That won't be a problem as she will be carrying both passports. My main concern is that they will charge her for either a new ticket or a name change fee. No problem if it is a resonable fee!

I called Thai Airways in london got transfered because first lady didn't know the answer. The second chap basically told me off and said we should not have renewed the passport and I should ring Thai in Bangkok but couldn't give me the number. Shocking customer service felt like a naughty school boy and if I knew where to complain I would. I got the Bangkok number from the net and passed onto wife. She is of the opinion that she will sort it on the day at checkin.I hope common sense prevails but I am still a little anxious!

You can't book an outward and return ticket in two different names. People can change their names through marriage but this does not invalidate the return ticket. I had a similar issue with Ryanair one time but they advised that she bring her marriage certificate to show the change and that was it sorted.

Also, if you find yourself speaking to an idiot with no understanding of customer service I find that it helps to adopt a German accent und demand to sprechen to der supervisor NOW!
