A group of Thai men have been going around to ladybars in Samui asking for fine money because the bars are playing copied CDs (not the originals). They have collected 5,000 baht "fines" from some and at least 30,000 from one, and 20,00 from another.

A gaggle of bargirls and some bar owners were spotted waiting for transport to go to the police in Chaweng yesterday to discuss the matter (Is this real? Who are these people? Under what authorization are they doing this? Why are the "fines" different? What are the massage parlors and restaurants and other establishments not approached?).

Anyone hear the outcome of this meeting?

I'm guessing they did not go to the shops that sell the pirated CDs to ask them to buy a "media license".... :)

There are more threads on this subject than a cat has lives. Do some research on TV and you mite be surprised on what you find out.

If there are already threads on Thaivisa about Thai men coming to bars asking that owners pay fines due to not having media licenses, please post the links.
