Five Wounded In Bomb Attack During Yellow Shirt Rally

In most of the world, firing upon insurgents who occupy govt buildings or take control of international airports is thought of as an act of patriotism. Refusing to fire is treason, and that is exactly what happened in Thailand.

Nonsense, and the exact opposite is the reason why the 2nd amendment in the US is so important.

You would claim that siding with the brown-shirts in Germany and attacking Jews and other people was the right thing to do also?

The government should be afraid of the people, not the other way around.

The 'insurgents' to whom you refer consisted of a motley collection of civilians, men women and children. You wanted the Thai government, the army and police, to commence firing on an airport full of (as it happened yellow shirted) Thai civilians? The Thai government ordering the shooting of thousands of Thai civilians engaged in an act of peaceful civil disobedience???

In case you missed it, we're not talking about the Mumbai terrorists. The PAD airport occupiers hurt Thailand but were engaged in peaceful, passive civil disobedience. Commence Firing!

Nazi time in Thailand.

The PAD airport occupiers hurt Thailand but were engaged in peaceful, passive civil disobedience.

A "peaceful" gathering that included the (documented) shooting at a journalist's van, the cutting of the throat, shooting, and leaving for dead in a ditch of one man at Suvarnabhumi, and the leaving of one corpse in Don Muang airport.

yes, of course...peaceful, passive, civil... :)

Its all relative. Compared to Black Songkran, it was a garden party ...

There are always two parts to such a party. If the military or police would have been allowed to crack down on the PAD in the airports as they were against the red shirts on the streets, there would have been more than a bit of violence. During the 7 October riots three police officers were shot by the PAD, several were driven over by a truck, one was stabbed with a flagpole through the chest.

No doubt the red shirts have very violent elements, but so have the PAD. The attempts here to paint the PAD as peaceful gathering are sickening. Just read the following article, with excerpts of the speeches from last Sunday. Can you honestly say that these ideas are peaceful, civil, or democratic?

Investigative teams established to probe PAD blast

BANGKOK, 18 November 2009 (NNT) - Two deputy metropolitan police chiefs were appointed to head the investigation on the PAD's bomb blast.

The meeting, chaired by Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Police Leutenant-General Worapong Chewprecha and Police Major General Wichai Sangpraphai, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1, resolved to form investigative teams to search for the mastermind of, and attackers in, the explosion at the recent mass rally of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in Sanam Luang last weekend. The two deputy metropolitan police chiefs, Police Major General Sumet Rueangsawat and Police Major General Amnuay Nimmano have been assigned to spearhead the teams.

The Metropolitan Police Chief said the whereabout of the attackers have not been identified yet and the investigative team was preparing to call additional witnesses for further interrogation as well as inspecting the CCTV cameras to track down the suspects.

The explosion erupted at the back of the PAD stage on the night of 15 November at around 21.00 hrs, which resulted in several injuries and damages to property on the spot. The M79 grenade was reportedly launched to the rally site of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in Sanam Luang, either from the Defence Ministry or the Juvenile Court compounds, according to police investigations.

The gathering of the PAD was aimed at showing the Thai people's force to protect the country's integrity and protest against deposed former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was recently appointed as an economic adviser to the Cambodian government and also his remarks about the Monarchy during an interview with The Times Online. His comments were deemed in contempt of the royal institution.

Check around tourist forums and see what the main concern is. Demonstrations in Bangkok, or your 'garden party' that prevented tourists from going home or continuing their holiday. PAD used armed guards who shot at counter demonstrators and even journalists (fact).

You know what, call it whatever you want. PAD can always use another apologist.

Of course it is worrying when covert operations specialists gets involved in a very tense political operation. Lets hope it doesn't pressage any events in the coming weeks and is just a meeting of old friends. The last thing Thailand needs is more violence although many I talk to still seem resigned to it happening.

I read somewhere that Sae Daeng is still a serving soldier. If so I would have though he may be in some trouble for admitting to illegally crossing a border. In fact maybe anyone who admitted that would be open to charge.

Sae Daeng has been taken out of action with this breaking news:

Gen Khatiya Gets Sentenced to 1 Year in Jail

UPDATE : 20 November 2009

The Criminal Court has sentence General Khatiya Sawasdipol to a 1 year jail term for defaming Police General Seripisut Temiyavej. General Khatiya alleged that the former acting Police Chief was involved in an illegal casino.

The court did not suspend the sentence.

Not suspended is different from normal.

He is currently asking for bail. Interesting to see if he gets it

There probably also were a number of robberies and a couple of murders in Bangkok during the PAD occupation of Swampy so why don't you throw those in too to associate with the PAD? You have it documented do you, that the girzzly events you refer to in your post were comitted by the PAD? Documented?

We're anyway off the point, which is that a forumist posted that the Thai government should have had the military and the police open fire on the unarmed PAD men, women and children occuping the airport; that any civilized government would have given the order and that the failure of the Thai government to give and effect such an order constitutes treason.

Somebody's nuts and suffering acute Thaksin post partum.

The man who as found with a cut throat and shot in a ditch was filmed being chased by PAD guards after he asked journalists for help.

The van full of journalists was shot at by PAD guards.

The murdered man was found in a plastic bag at Don Muang after PAD left the airport - at his corpse were insignia of "Srivichai warriors", and the time of his death was during the PAD occupation.

What more do you want?

In addition to that - the PAD guards filmed shooting at Vibhavadi Soi 3 are now on wanted posters in front of police stations.

What about last sunday's speeches? Do they also suit your view of a generally "peaceful", "civilian" and "democratic" organization you try to paint the PAD as? Any comment on demands to cut of heads, war cries against cambodia, songs on 'nac pandin'?

Mine is not a reply to your post so in the event of any misperceptions by anyone, let me be clear I'd though my post about the proposed massacre of 'insurgents' was somewhat an extension of your reference to the brown shirts and the Jews, but if it might not have been such and makes you unconfortable, I'll respect your concerns about posting replies directly in any future instances that may pertain to your posts. Do let me know if any further clarification is needed, thanks.

The PAD have been left as a small extreme group. However, they have the contacts and media to drag in a larger group of sympathisers if the nationalist rhetoric ramps up

It is all looking like the conditions for the perfect strom are forming.

Oh my God, here comes a group of old-ladies wearing yellow-shirts, to welcome the PM back to Swampy after his overseas-trip.

What on earth will we do, if they start singing songs while they wait, or playing badminton ? :)

  • 2 weeks later...
Those "peaceful" redshirts at it again. Support them at your peril.

How about we start with an accurate report first?

When there was violence at the Cambodian temple site during the yellow shirt excursion, it was apparent, that the violent parties may have been sympathetic to the yellow shirts, were neither supported nor directed by yellow shirt leadership. I would suggest that the same holds here; that some idiots that may or may not be sympathetic to the redshirts may be implicated. For all we know it could be a dissident yellow shirt faction responsible. It certainly wasn't the redshirts that tried to assassinate the beloved PAD leader last time. I suggest we wait for a more reliable report.

These stories tend to grow wings and fly taking on "fact" as they are repeated with each retelling adding more fanciful fact.

AND............a few idiots in this forum get led along by their noses believing it, because they cannot think for themselves, and want to believe anything that

is anti redshirt, which is printed.

there suppose to be 900 cops guarding the area as well as the same of the plain cloth ones.

anybody throwing a bomb in such condition would be stopped, chased or shot - why it did not chappen?

Maybe because it is a setup???????

don't underestimate the rulling class, which tries to hung to power by any means.

thai secret service is maybe not as well funded as cia, but trained by them back in the 60-ties during opperations against local rebels and vietcong, so can use the same techniques

Many journalists wondered on TV at the time how a grenade launcher could be fired from Klong Lot without police seeing it- and indeed the policeman in charge railed against his men. The fact is there are many policemen sympathetic to Thaksin, an ex policeman himself, perhaps they turned a blind eye.

giles, as a good trockist, would jump on any bandwagon, to spew his politics, same as pallop would jump to any political party promissing him a ministerial post in the future government.

pallop is former deputy chief of the Internal Security Operations Command, thai sercet service, which suports the theory, that the bomb was staged. Once you are in the secret service you are there for the rest of your life - whether it would be civil servant in any political party (even in opposition) or as a fedder for crocodiles on some army run farm
