Yesterday, the following legendary gay publications went belly up:

Washington Blade

Atlanta Southern Voice

South Florida Blade

and the entertainment mags David in Atlanta and 411 in Florida.

The Washington Blade in particular which had a 40 year run had a significant role in the plight for American gay civil rights over the years, it being a Washington D.C. organ. Soon gay marriage will be legal in Washington D.C., but no Blade to cover it. The Blade brand (also the Voice) was always known for a more mainstreaming political point of view.

Anyway, as I said, the end of an era. RIP Blades, etc.

The newspaper biz is bad all over.

Thanks for the post. I very vaguely recall the magazine. Always sad to hear about the demise of another 'voice.'
