Dead Musicians Supergroup

Featured Replies

Best supergroup of dead greats of music.

Here is mine.

Drums: John Bonham, Keith Moon

Keyboards: Ray Charles, Billy Preston, Mozart.

Rhythm Guitar and vocals: John Lennon, George Harrison, Robert Johnson (slide), Brian Jones,

Lead Guitar and vocals: Jimi Hendrix

Female backing vocals: Dusty Springefield, Minnie Ripperton, Karen Carpenter (& drums)

Male backing vocals: Marvin Gaye (& piano), Otis Redding, Sam Cooke.

Lead vocals: Elvis Presley.

I don't think it would work but mouthwatering anyway.

18 piece band is streatching it a bit far.

I would have Keith moon on drums. Hendrex on lead. Keith Richards on rythm. Flea on bass and Iggy Pop on vocals.

Lou Reed to write the lyrics.

Dammit forgot the bass guitar.

John Entwhistle, Ben Orr.

Thanks mate, good but only dead musicians. Mind is Keith dead already? :)

Whoops!!

Ok I will replace Iggy With John Lennon. Keith with Sterling Morrision. And I would put Syd Barrett on bass.

Maybe a George Harrison and Lennon writing partnership.

Yep, good one.

What about orchestral arrangement?

Tchaikovsky comes to mind.

Sterling Morrison is good also.

I like this one. :)

Drums: not required in this rock 'a billy group

Bass: Bill Black

Piano: Floyd Cramer

Rhythm Guitar and Vocals: Elvis Presley

Lead Guitar: Carl Perkins

Backup Vocals: Frank Sinatra, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Queenie Sri Isaan, Patsy Cline

Managers: Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochrane, Ricky Nelson

Put Elvis as the doorman/receptionist, maybe M.C.

Sam Cooke as lead singer. He's got more talent and charisma than the others combined.

Keith moon was good in context of the Who, but is too noisy to play with any other combo. He'd piss the others off, especially another drummer.

Put me on bass, though I'm not dead and have never been famous - yet I'd kick butt fersure, guaranteed.

Sorry, can't agree. A cool cat, Jerry was. If he was guitarist/vocalist, you'd have to call it a garage band. I've played better guitar and sang better than Jerry when I had bronchitis and bandaged fingers.

Elvis Presley -- OUT

Keith Moon -- OUT

Jerry Garcia -- OUT

Brahmburgers -- IN

BB -- the best (only?) kick butt bass player in Baan Nok Chiang Rai

Jackie (sp) Wilson is better than Sam Cooke, and has way more charisma. But is he dead?

... even dead, Jackie Wilson (1934 - 1984) might have more charisma, but Sam C. was surely up there with pure quiet energy a la A Change Is Gonna Come

I like this one as well.

Great back up vocalists and Carl Perkins. Love it. :)

OK sir. Seeing as I started it, I will bend the rules and you can be on bass.

Agree about Sam Cooke although Marvin Gaye was a bit special.

This line-up would be worth listening to in my imagination :-

Gene Krupa - drums

Charlie Mingus - bass

Django Reinhardt – guitar

Andres Sergovia - guitar

Stephane Grappelli - violin

Thelonious Monk - piano

Charlie Parker - saxophone

Bix Beiderbecke - trumpet

Billy Holiday - vocalist

The Inkspots - backing singers

I agree, played the guitar as if he was plucking a banjo, must go.

To replace him, Lowell George on slide and Duane Allman on lead.

On vocals, Mr Pitiful himself.

I was thinking more of who might sound really great together. Sometimes artists that are individually masters at their craft can't always bring out the best of the others in the group. I like a good jam and I miss Jerry, but yeah there are many more skilled

....and surrounding rice fields, unless there's someone better that I haven't yet heard.

seriously though, I've had lucid dreams where I'm jamming with Hendrix. A guy can dream, can't he?

Hello BB -- whatever Jerry lacked in singing or even may have lacked in playing skills... the guy had heart. He was the musical equivalent of Ernie Banks's "It's a beautiful day for a ballgame... Let's play two!" and would play with just about anybody until the janitor turned out the lights. I did have a small personal association with JG, but not worth describing here...and sure, anybody can dream

Some great suggestions, we're going to end up with a full orchestra :)

Freddie Mercury MUST figure in any supergroup :D

and maybe Kurt Cobain...

man, i would definitely buy a ticket to see John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix and Mozart. i guess i'll have to wait until Buddha sends me back next time around.

Another mistake.

Forgot to add Phil Lynott on bass. Oh Yes. :)

...and Frank Zappa, Ronnie Van Zant, Howard Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian Jones, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Michael Jackson, Ike Turner...

...all great musicians

I might be wrong but is Roger Waters still alive? :)
