The_Moog
Sunday nights figures. 77 in the mortuary so far Predictions range from 450 (Sammo) to 999 (Moog) so far. New punters can nominate their numbers - lets say before wednesday, when the booze starts talking, and water/wee-wee chucking and slippery roads really start to count. I'll post Monday's road casualties on this topic tomorrow. Winner gets the title 'King (or Queen) Of Songkran' for one year ps No disrespect to the dead intended. ...but as the Government really wants to publish these results and issue its own sets of predictions...... Holiday road accident figures better than govt target BANGKOK, Apr 10, (TNA) – Nearly 80 people have died on Thailand’s roads over the past two days and 1,818 more have been injured, but the figures released today show that the government is managing to keep accidents at rates lower than expected over the Songkran period. Releasing the statistics for the first two days of the Songkran period, Mr. Sunthorn Riewluang, director-general of the Department for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said that 847 road accidents occurring yesterday led to 50 deaths, compared to the government’s target figure of no more than 60. A further 1,064 people were injured, considerably down from the targeted ceiling of 2,548. Yesterday’s figures put the total number of deaths for the past two days at 77 and the total number of injuries at 1,818, down 14.4 percent and 69.3 percent respectively from the government’s expectations. Unsurprisingly, motorcycles were found to be involved in 81.74 percent of the accidents, while risk factors included failure to wear crash helmets, drink driving and speeding. Mr. Sunthorn called on local officials to continue to exercise strict controls over motorists Edited April 10, 2005 by The_Moog

The_Moog
Songkran officially begins on Wednesday and ends on Friday. In its road-safety campaign for the festival period, the government aims to minimise road casualties during the “10 dangerous days” between April 8 and 17. The Sweep will run till Sunday 17th - so Jackr, you can change your number if you like. Always lots of accidents on the highway thru Korat /Khon Kaen to Bangkok on the last weekend to factor in. Closing date for entries is midnight tuesday. Monday's toll to follow this evening. Who will be our mighty, mighty 'King of Songkran'? Kerryd
1,672.5 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> intresting, do you predict someone to be cut in two and survive or something <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I figure there'll be at least 1 missing and "presumed" dead, (after all, they are still listing around 50,000 as "missing" over 3 months after the tsunami ! Or one who gets mistakenly listed as dead, but turns out to have been out of the country at the time of his supposed demise !
