Xanax And Valium In Pattaya

I found the same... I'm flying home soon and tried at the pharmacies (in Chiang Mai) where I used to get Xanax to help me sleep but all of them are adamant that it's no longer over the counter anywhere in Thailand.

Hospitals still issue it on docters prescription..

I considered popping over to Suan Prung Mental Hospital and claiming flight-phobia and asking for some Xanax, but... That would be a little more effort than I need right now.

I'll just stick to alcohol. :-)

Many chemists in Bkk still have them, but charge a ridiculous price.

I still buy occasionally for friends coming off booze or other drugs.

Be very careful, it took me 5 years to come off valium, and benzodiazepines are the hardest drug in the world to come off(alcohol was a stroll in the park), that I know of. Some say that only perhaps methadone is harder. DON'T GET HOOKED.

Doctors in Thailand are just starting to reap the results of handing them out freely.

Thousands of thai people are addicted to these drugs and can't come off.

Many teenagers abuse benzodiazepines, just like where I used to live in Scotland.

They inject them, which gives a good "buzz", some die, which is a side effect.

I got it solved!!! :D I did pop over to my local hospital, explained I have flight anxiety and can't sleep on flights because of stress, so could you please give me some Xanax or something... (It's semi-true, actually..) It seemed like the doctor thought I needed to suffer from fear of heights as well in order to prescribe me something.. In the end I just admitted to that. Strange.. I mean surely you can have an irrational fear of flying sans regular fear of heights?? I mean mountains or tall buildings don't blow up suddenly or come crashing down like happens to airplanes..

Anyway, I didn't get Xanax but Lorazepam; already looked it up on webmd.com and it seems similar enough. (WebMD: "May cause extreme drowsiness in combination with alcohol".. (hint-hint.. ) I guess Xanax is too expensive to be handed out free on social health insurance; whatever. Anything better than Valium, I really disliked that stuff.

(I can of course see the logic in not having them freely available over the counter. Personally though for me, this is not any chronic condition or something, it's for once in a blue moon when I'm on a long distance flight or bus ride.)

Can anyone PM me any Bangkok (or Chiang Mai, of course) pharmacy that will sell me generic Xanax? Used to pay 70 baht for 10 pills but I'd understand if it was a tad more expensive these days..

True, alcohol is as bad. Cigs. are at least not mind-altering.

Xanax/Valium worse than 'hard' illegal drugs? That is another whole different argument.

Neeranam: Yes you are spot on; Once you are hooked on benzodiazapines that is it: death or withdrawal:

I once got hooked on Librium; very quickly when I needed to get off the booze and into a job: I wish I hadn't bothered.

It's easy with booze: ten days reduction then bingo no side effects. With benzodiazapines it is a much more prolonged withdrawal. The symptoms of withdrawal only helped by...more benzodiazapines.

There are not many people who can take Xanex (alprazolam) without getting to like it. And ex-boozers are worse, when it comes to quick addiction.

The happy ending is this: People who think they need anti-anxiolotics like benzodiazapenes should seriously consider taking an anti-depressant such as Lustral or Prozac. That would sort out the 'nervous tension' and 'screaming abdabs'.

Good luck, original poster of this topic: but to be honest a hip flask of scotch is a far safer route than Xanex or Valium.

Tried getting off them several times but could not. They are extremely addicting.

there has been a ban on these and any tranqilisers being casually bought in Pattaya for many years due to the fact that so many tourists were being drugged and robbed .

this was about 8 years ago so i recall.

more recently they have extended bans on casual buying of these all over the country

If you had read the Pattaya Mail around 7-8 years ago the pages were full of stories about farangs being drugged and robbed , some never woke up again as the dose given by the micky finners was way to large.

Thats exactly what I do.I just pop off to my local Doc and get doz Lorazepam..total cost about THB150.They work a treat for me when flying.

The dissappearance from the over the counter situation here on Phuket timed the same week as the front page piece ion the Nation about date rape sedatives etc..

The generics went up from 6 baht to 15 baht with a less over the counter agreement.. 10 baht on 1000 box..

Doesnt seem to have gone anywhere just become more expensive..

Whats the legal position on having them without perscription ??

Buy Amyltriptamine (spelling?) it a powerful antidepressent you can buy it without prescripton. It knocks you out and when you wake up you dont feel too groggy. Good for long haul flights.

I will go along with a couple of the other posters here who have had Benzo addiction problems, my advice is, don't take em, it took me a few years to ween off of them, believe me, the withdrawal is really really bad.

I know people who became completely housebound through agoraphobia, it is the worst and longest lasting withdrawal I know of, Smack and Coke are a walk in the park compared to Benzo's.

You think giving up Smoking is difficult, try giving up Xanax or valium after protracted use.

That could contribute to the reason why are no longer available in the supermarket pharmacy. They should never have been on the market in the first place.

Benzos are very very addictive, and they should be strictly controlled as such. I would not wish a benzo addiction on my worst enemy, that's how bad it is.

I also was on about 10 times the recommended dosage for 5 years, and it took me that long to get off them. Evil evil evil drug, and worse are the pushing Thai doctors who get their free trip etc from the drug companies, but I don't want to getinto that crap.

I have told many people about the dangers of these drugs, only to be told that they can't be that bad, or Doctors would not dish them out so easily.

I must admit that I never appreciated the power of these drugs, until it was too late, I can understand why people take these drugs all of their lives, the withdrawal is so difficult and so life altering, many people just cannot stop taking them.

I had a friend who was on just about everything, Benzos took him nearly 2 years to taper down, and he was having sporadic Panic Attacks for a further 2 years.

Those are also really good to eat in the morning if you are hungover. Just a word of warning to anyone using these to sleep or for motion sickness, one or two is all you want to eat. If you eat 5+ of these they can cause extreme hallucinations. I worked on fishing boats for years and we'd use these for motion sickness, and some of the crew would eat a lot of them to get high. It's not a fun high though, no euphoria or anything, but intense hallucinations and you can't tell if they are real or fake. So be sure to just take 1 or 2, unless your in to that sort of thing.

Xanax and Valium are not legally sold OTC in THailand. Neither is Ketamine to say the least.
