November 21, 200916 yr I just contacted my Notebook manufacturer and I found out I was qualified to upgrade to windows 7 free of charge/ I only paid for shipping which was only $19.99. If you bought your pc/notebook recently contact the manufacturer and may be you also qualify
November 21, 200916 yr the fees are in the shipping fees ;-) shipping is never more than a few pounds for a box with two dvd's. you'll find that all manufacturers have different shipping fees but the dvd is almost always free
November 21, 200916 yr Author Any idea what is the normal qualifying period? I bought mine with vista at the end of June, 09 so may be 6 month. I think it is worth trying and you pay nothing if you don’t qualify

I think that upgrade was in many cases promised at the time of purchase of the laptop, so it was already included in the laptop price. Many people say (I don't say it as I don't use it) that Windows 7 is just a larger service pack of Vista so it should be for free anyway (but I am just the messenger who is repeating it, I don't use either of the them....not stable enough yet).
November 22, 200916 yr So, you are saying people who bought laptops 6 months ago were being informed a free upgrade was included?
November 22, 200916 yr Sorry, I see that not all machines qualify so that this upgrade is only applicable to some machines from some manufacturers. http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/notebooks/0,3...62055615,00.htm

Yeap, I wouldn't be complaining about a upgrade to Windows 7 for only $20, whether you are calling it a shipping fee or not!
