I did not want to be so negative; maybe I could have worded my post better.

However I have lived in Thailand about 15 years and it really is a lawless place (look at the shenanigans that happens at government level; Taksin, etc). I think you could not expect the law or police to protect you and your business and anything could happen. Generally the more foreigners invest here the more they loose. I think I learned a long time ago to not spend more than I could loose and just enjoy Thailand for what it is. Thats what I do now. Hence why I own old bikes and keep them going. Overall I think I am quite happy knowing I now have little to loose Lets just say I have had property taken away from me and the legal system did not protect me. So you have little rights here.

I was not aware of the fact that you could hire a ninja or er6 in bkk for 850 a day,however i rented one last week for 3 days on samui 2009 er6 for 1500 a day passport and 5k deposit NO insurance and could not leave the 20 km long island,totaly waste of money as the trafic there is deadly i would say wors than driving on sukhumwit as there are less drunk drivers there.

feedback are deeply apriciated and if anybody will tell me where i can get that 850 deal no deposit and full insurance i will not bother driving one of my own bikes.

Phuket you can get a ER6 for that kind of money.. hel_l 1l super sports normally haggled down to 1000b. I think I read Pop in CM is 900 a day ??

And no idea where I read it or heard it but even think I heard someone mention 15k a month which did strike me as VERY cheap... I may be confusing something on that one tho.

I am a bit confused too.i thought phuket was in south thailand and not close to bankgkok and i thought cm was 700 km north of bkk,and i asume we are talking fully insured bikes here,give me the name of the rental shop i siriosly want to rent a bike there (not kidding) as i am in phuket quite often.

I am sorry to learn about the loss of your house,this is more like a hobby for me i dont expect to get rich,i dont see it as an investment,i am fully aware of pittfalls in muang thai i allso speak the language.

i have sveral friends loosing realestate so that is not something i dont want to spend money on, its too cheap to rent i allso clearly see the problems with renting out bikes,damage on the bikes has to be payed by the renter,police can not confiscate a fully legal registered bike with insurance however they can put the driver in jail,allthough that is not realy my problem.

I legaly own all my bikes and i do have some real good thaifriends that will help me out if i ever get in to trouble,that has not happend yet.

Yes I realize That I gave prices on the north and the south of the country, I assume Pattaya isnt much different but cant say for sure as I have never rented there. I was just relating prices in Thailand all over.

Specific location beach Rd Patong.. Theres actually one I used for an FZ6 @ 1000 per day on single days and I know that would have haggled down to a couple hundred less per day if week or so. A CBR1000 was 1000 a day first price offered, that place was back from Beach Rd on the Rd to Karon. Prices vary enourmously depending on how much of a tourist they assume you might be.

I never give a passport but will leave a UK DL.. They usually need some working on for that but once they realize your a resident you can often swing it.

The fz6 is a 450-550k bth motorcycle asuming its new and fully registered,i will check that out next month when in phuket,the cbr1000 must be an old one and not so interesting and if it has legal papers i would be very surprized,i dont mind paying for quality and i never take on a 1000 km trip with a dodgy soi bike.

I did meet a guy from france on a stolen bmw r1150gs last year he had payed 140k bath for it with fake numberplates on,the plates did look good but wiil get you a lot of trouble if you get cought.

A friend of mine got busted on a rented pattaya bike last year at nana,the cops siezed the bike and the renter had to come up to bkk and bail the bike out,lot of problems.

I was about to rent a ktm duke 690 in pattaya a while ago i checked the book and woldn`t you know it was a kawasaki and not posisible to leave pattaya,if you rent an illegal bike and get it confiscated by the police the renter will probably blame you and you will have to pay for the bike.

A fully street legal and insured new cbr1000 will probably cost you about 7-800k bath asuming you can get it thru the emission test,renting it out for 1k bth is not good business i would say impossible.

You will pay thru your nose for spare parts and proper maintanance that counts for an fz as well

I do rent bikes when i dont bring my own and when i fly down to phuket or cm but i stick to the legal bikes with insurance POP is very good option i CM never seen dodgy bikes or cars at his shops and you can go wherevever you want with the bikes i have seen his bikes in LOEI.

I have never had any problems surender my passport or housebook i will get it back,allso hace no problem paying a deposit if required i always get that back when returning the bike

I have however never rented bikes on phuket because of the fact i dont like patong and it is probably the only place to rent on phuket,the other thing is that it scares me to drive down there,not so much the thai drivers but the tourists are the worst.

The worst place i ever driven was on samui last week,you can never drive safe above 60 kmh,rent big bikes there is totaly idiotic and i will not do it again,leave that to the holliday bikers i dont drive big bikes to impress bar girls

I will allso rent out bikes long term for a much lover price than estimated for daily rental,but it always be a deposit and some form of security and if you are 18 you will not be able to rent from me.

I got a lot of questions about renting bikes for short periodes of time like 5 or 6 days and a trip to laos i dont think people understand how big this country is and how afordable it is to rent a motorcycle,i have done laos with a klx and it is good fun i have been in evry city in thailand on a motorcycle and i am stil not bored with thailand the biggest mistake tourists do is to try to do it all in a week,this year i have done allmost 20k km in thailand alone, and i love it.

Next week i will go south to phuket on one of the er6 bikes il spend 2 weeks doing that.

both the ninja and the er6n are very good bikes any person can drive them and even exprinced drivers will like them the ninja has a better level of comfort and better tyres but the n version has a meaner look and does not invite to high speed.

All of you that want to come along on a tip are wellcome to do so, on your own ride or rent one from me,its a beautifull country to drive in and more people should do it

I agree with nuwatmat. I do not consider his prices out of line, and if it were me running the business, I would actually charge more. (Actually I wouldn't get in this business because it seems like too much of a headache.) In the USA, there are various places one can rent high end cars, like ferrari's, bentley's, porsches, and the like. They charge more to rent per day than going down and renting a Dodge caliber. It makes sense. If he is renting out big bikes, he should charge more than what it costs to rent a nuovo or fino. Makes sense to me. About the cheaper bikes you can rent in Pattaya, or wherever, they are notoriously sketchy bikes. They are not legit, legal bikes,properly imported into Thailand. I actually think they were stolen bikes somehow brought into Thailand because there is no way you could legitimately buy a bike and bring it into Thailand for the kind of prices they are renting them out at. I also do not know who has ridden them before, or even if they will stay in one piece if I am travelling at high speed. If you want quality, expect to pay a premium. If you want cheap then rent cheap and you get what you pay for.

Look no more,from the 10 next month there will be 2 ninjas or 2 er6n in bkk for rent,i am sure we will agree on a price we both can live with i have as for today 5 bikes all brand new 2010 with abs.

you can pick one up in central sukhumwit and return the same place the phone will be answered by mrs malee and by me.

i have found the kawa abs system quite good not as good as on the high powered bmw`s but good enough,been driving for 25 years and evry little bit of safety you can buy is worth the money,for us normal drivers not for the race track.

did allmost the same route in january,but included loei,phu ruea,you are right nan is beautifull for driving but i remember loei was down to 8 celsius in the morning and had to wait til about lunch time before i started one day.

was up there during loi khratong it was about 20 in the evening but not one drop of rain for the whole trip, about 4 weeks nakhon sawan-mae sot-mae sariam-mae hong son-chiang mai-loei-nong bua-udon-khon kaen-roiet-buriram-bkk

I will be in bkk for a day or two from the 10 january maybe we should have a beer or two before i head south,was in phuket last week even that was a bit chilly in the evening.

I double that Siamwheels is to me the best superbike rental shop in Bangkok. I had several positive experiences with them: sick new bikes check the showroom, latest upgrades on exhaust, even racing breaks! I used to rent bikes when going to Phuket or Pattaya but most of the time desapointed byt the shape of the bikes. They delivered the bike to by doors, and all bikes have papers and insurance not like some companies.

funny to see people complaining about deposit and passport: You want to ride a big bike and don't want to pay the the price, rent the 3rd hand bikes 400s from Pattaya, with hand made spare parts from Laos. I used Siamwheels because it's one time deposit, they have a copy of my passport and they deliver me the bike anywhere in Bangkok. And the deposit is just to cover the default insurance fee in case of accident. Believe me it's better than trying to negociate after a crash with a "thai" owner (with all respect). I rent the best I found in Thailand with great extra equipments, I don't know how many shops spent 40000 baht just to add racing breaks on a bike for rent?

FWIW I believe all of the bikes available for rent from Bangkok Bikes Rental (http://www.bangkokbikesrental.com) are near new and 100% legal.

Regarding Pattaya, yes, there are plenty of beaters for rent, but there are also plenty of perfectly legit rentals as well. Good idea to walk along beach road to see what's available. Beware the 600cc-1000cc imported sport bikes. They're generally in poor condition, paperworks's probably dodgy on most and the guys that rent them have a reputation for being scam artists.

This 250cc Ninja is not a popular BBR's request,i've got one, a friend keep it on long term rent. basis,when i have a rider who need it i kindly ;-) ask my fellow friend to switch with a bigger bike from our fleet...Believe me his b@tt is ninjette shaped.

By the way i'm thinking to get a couple of CBR 250, -30k Bahts on tag its help.

I can't offer "Pattaya's rates" but i will not charge triple for issues or send you a coppy or steal own my bike. AAA (just a bad joke we all found great bikes to rides in Pat ',i remember the time i rented bikes from them then brought it to service before to ride).

I'm investing money in tires, fluids,maintenance,insurance,market....Usual stuffs to keep bikes in great shape to provide a valuable service .

Bikes are parts of BBR assets ,my own interest to maintain them in good conditions.

Heard only good things about Sumet Cycles,his 1st class insurance pol. will not work with BBR and the others as well aswe are using bikes on commercial (rental) purposes.BTW beware of these few foreigns "bonirenteurs" in north or south who propose 1st class coverage,most aren't aware that Falcon,Siam,Veerhaya policies are not applicable on these purpose,it can bring you far ...or deep (Local just doesn't care about that,to make you pay the full price is the real biz.,so they will not insured their bikes ).

Ok Thaicbr ) !! AAA.How long you would rent a brand new CBR,3rd party cover up to 5M Bahts by an int' insurance carrier !?!

well i would be a day/weekend renter until i buy one myself.. Thats the nature of renters.

as for the insurance i'm pretty sure that kawasaki and the insurers do 2 different types. one personal and one for rental (the 2nd one is more expensive) But i may be wrong.

Code 610 refers to the use of personal vehicles. That the insured is an individual. And used cars for personal gain. Not hire or rent a car and a person. Owner of a vehicle that is intended for individual use only. As the bus. In this case, a person is insured.

Code 620 refers to vehicles used for hire or rent a car, the insured is an individual. But usually the vehicle used to transport passengers or cargo to benefit.

Trade or business or entity that is insured.
