very sensational title with a little substance in the article.

"an individual believed to be a guard for the red shirt rallies. ... in possession of countless handmade bombs and a gun. Authorities are investigating a possible connection between the suspect and earlier reports of a assassination attempt on the Prime Minister's life."

"believed" is hardly a fact, "handmade bombs" and "countless" might mean devices no more than firecracker (you do count big and powerful bombs, but you don't count something, which is useless), handguns are in the every second house in thailand (some of them only legal).

to assassinate one person you don't need many bombs, one is sufficient, and powerful, long range rifles are used to assassinate, rather than a handgun.

everything might be just a setup by the security services to heat up tension and discourage some of the protesters from taking part in this rally. Might be a very convenient way of introducing a local state of emergency and cancelling all the public gatherings
