I got this from a google search: http://www.thaipro.com/z1017b/855_thailand.html

... mind that once you enter Thailand, youll have to pay a 500baht Airport Tax per person to leave, unless your stay is less than 12 hours. More on this below. Most travelers can get a free 30 day tourist Visa on arrival at the airport. Check out Visas on arrival at the following page Visas On Arrival You can get a exemption from the 500baht Airport Tax if you enter Thailand for less than 12 hours. But you need to ask for the waiver at immigration Before you enter Thailand. They will give you a time stamped note so that you can prove it was less than 12 hours.

Worth a try.

Or you could just pay the 500B, you cheap bastard.

Not sure how you can "Book the GF in" without buying her a ticket

which will cost more than 500 baht?

You're connecting in Bangkok and therefore not stopping, not sure you would be able to go through immigration even if you wanted to. Why doesn't she check herself in and you meet her at the departure gate?

I would have agreed and said 'daft to go through and pay the 500 baht'

joe beets advises info whereby one doesn't have to pay the 500 bt if it is a short stay. Thanks for that - only wish I'd known last month - not once but TWICE in a week I came out of immigration while transiting Bangkok to Hong Kong, and returning from Hong Kong to Yangon via Bangkok.

Next time I'll try to get the waiver.

For the GF - in the past have always met mine inside if I havent needed to come out. She's Thai? Shouldn't be much of a drama, as all the check-in staff and immigration etc are Thai, they can help her through.

500 baht is worth saving, few rounds of drinks or a bottle of plonk in the duty free.

I will keep you posted.

When i told her to book in and that i would send her the Eticket she refused point blank and told me to go on my own had to give in and will now go through imogration will ask for waiver not worried about 500b its only 10€ its the hassel running around trying to get everything sorted in time to make connection .

Will keep you posted on outcome.

This is what she said "No want to go no want to talk about it"

Is this whats ahead of me ??????????
