I recently took in 2 kittens I found in my garden and word must have got around. The last 2 nights somebody has dumped a kitten in my garden, this morning with some food as well. It's either gone home or hiding under the car somewhere. Two cats is enough for me, if this new one comes back again what is the best thing to do? Is there a place that will take kittens in Bangkok or is the local temple OK? Anybody want a kitten? I would guess it's around 4 months old, looks well fed and not injured.

This is typical of Thai people. Every week hundreds of kittens and dogs are dumped in other people's property, temples, or just in the middle of the road in cardboard boxes. The temples are overwhelmed with them, and they do not usually have a good life there - injuries caused by fights usually kills them off within weeks.

As far as I know there is no charity that takes in cats. I have too many already, or I'd take it.

Dogs and cats are often dumped in our moo ban. :) I saw one being dumped a few months back. A car drove in to our soi late at night, the back door opened and a cat was hurled out and the car made off. The people who do this are irresponsible b*****ds

I think my kittens must have been dumped in the road and been roughing it for a while. They were obviously used to people but hadn't seen food for a while. This new kitten dumped last night is hanging around outside, I guess I will see if he wants to camp out in my workshop for now, where the wife can't see him :-) My wife doesn't like cats, but she likes our 2 kittens, 3 is pushing it too far!

Yes, it's funny - most Thais have been brought up to believe that cats are dirty creatures. All my friends are amazed to see my cats trundle off to the bathroom to use their toilet, and clean up afterwards. Even the mother-in-law who hated them now has a cat ...

It makes me so sad. Just nearby there is a back alley with dozens of starving kittens. I give them food but you can't help all of them, there's just too many.

My wife claims not to like cats but then a customer of ours told her that if you take in a lost black cat you will be rich, which got her interest. I have to say that our business has been doing extremely well since then! I like to think it's because of the website I made really starting to get us some tourists wanting hair extensions but she says it's because of the cat and makes a big fuss of her every night now.

In my wife's village I spotted a blind old lady.

I asked my wife if she's been blind all her life.

No, she tried to kill a cat but failed and buried the cat alive, that's why she got blind. :)

Keep the cat stories coming.

I'm having trouble confirming taking abandoned kittens in makes you rich. I've lost count of the number that have been dumped on us. I can't say the cash flow has increased. :)

Feed it to your pet snake :) .

It will probably go its own way if you take care of it for a while .And it may be a good rat catcher,

Thai people just dump Animals when they cannot feed them , They just take them to the Monks , Thats why there are lots of

Animals around most Temples

If there are no sactuaries near then take them to the nearest temple with a large bag of dried food.

That's exactly what I had done, after receiving the same advice. I understand that the monks actually like the cats because they keep the rodent population under control and they don't cause any fuss or 'noise pollution' (unlike with dogs, for example).

So, yeah, by all means don't just dump them anywhere. Find the nearest wat or two for their new home and definitely bring the largest bag of kitten chow you can afford with you as a courtesy....

Yo! Read the post carefully... they gotta be black cats.

Have you ever heard cats when in heat?

I'm slightly worried about going to SCAD after checking the link. There are some cute kittens on there in need of a home, I might just end end going home with a bunch more than I started with! I'll check out the local temple if the kitten is still here in a day or two.

I remember years ago walking through one of the rather deserted gates near the back part of Wat Arun and being OVERWHELMED by the beautiful odor of cat pee. And that is a smell that almost never goes away.

I thought I would update this post. The dumped kitten hung around my workshop for few days and I didn't have the heart to take him anywhere else. The wife decided that he was quite a nice little thing after all so now he is called Marble and is here to stay.

If you are the phantom kitten dumper of Laksi, no more please, 3 is enough.
