hi all,

i am getting all different answers to my question...does my new born baby need a visa to go to thailand? he will be 3 months old, i am travelling on a non o multiple, taking my son back to thailand to see his daddy who is a thai national. he was not present in the uk for the birth therefore not on the birth cert, although my son shares his name on his passport and birth cert ( uk), i will get his thai papers done in thailand when daddy is present. not sure what to do, some peolpe say i need it some say they have travelled woth a baby without a visa...i am very confused also a bit miffed to pay another 100 quid for a tiny baby to have his own visa when i have one and he will not be goin anywhere without me!

cheers for any advice, need to get all this sorted soon as i am going back in end of jan

You will need to get your son a Thai birth certificate from the Embassy in London, you won't be able to get his Thai papers done inside Thailand because he was born outside of the country. Seeing as you need to do this in the UK you might as well go ahead and get his Thai passport there also, then you have no worries about getting him a visa because he is a Thai national.

You are saying that he has a UK passport - if he does why does he need a visa to enter Thailand as a visitor - unless of course you are planning to stay long term in which case you are better getting him a Thai passport for unrestricted entry into Thailand.

As child is using a UK passport a visa or visa exempt stamp will be required for entry into Thailand. If child does not have onward booking in 30 days airline could refuse boarding but suspect that is very unlikely in such a case as yours (where you do have visa) but no guarantee. Once in Thailand there is no overstay fines for children so they would not have to make border runs.

I guess you are not married tot the father, so to legitimize the child the UK law applies since the child was born in the UK. Don't know about that one.

The baby would need it's own visa (or visa exempt entry), but after entering it is not that important as there is no overstay for children till 15 years old. The best way is of course always the legal way and sort his Thai nationality out.

Check with your airline if they will let him fly without a proper visa, just to be sure.
