Hi, can anyone tell me......

I have a Double entry tourist visa in my old passport, I have just received a new passport. I have used up 1 entry in my old passport where I need to leave the country on Dec 18th. I was told by CM Immigration that if I wanted to extend 30days, I would need to transfer the visa to my new passport then extend - which is fine. My question is, if I don't extend then exit on 18th Dec (Mae Sai) and come back on the 2nd entry where they will stamp my new passport, once that 2nd entry is finished can I then extend by 30 days? I don't understand how it would work, would they grant the extension in my new passport ? (even thought the tourist visa is in my old passport and hasn't been transferred yet?)

Thanks

transferring your permission to stay is easy and doesn't cost any money.

You will need to re-enter with your old and new passport. The visa they will want to check is in your old passport, your permission to stay will be stamped in your new passport. Once your visa is used up, you only need your new passport and they will extend in the new passport.

So it doesn't matter that the tourist visa is used up in my old passport, they can still extend in my new passport?

Thanks.

Your tourist visa is not dead as you have only used the first entry of your double entry tourist visa. You will need to have your current permission to stay stamp that is in your old passport transferred to your new passport. That can be done by immigration at the same time as you apply for your 30 day extension of stay. Your extension will be put in your new passport. As said, you will need to use both passports when entering the country until your visa expires. The fact that your visa in within an expired/cancelled passport does not invalidate it.
