Just Saw Avatar At Paragon In Imax 3d

This was my first IMAX 3D movie and was half expecting a whopper of headache but happy to report no pain or blurryness at all (and I wear glasses)

As for the movie itself I thought it was amazing and had the same feeling I had when I first saw Jurassic Park. It is a huge leap forward in merging special effects and acting. It's like nothing you've seen before.

Everything seemed so alive it was incredible. I hope more 3D movies are made like this!

i am really looking forward to this one. I have seen several in the USA on IMAX and the experience is incredible.

For a real mind blowing experience, try to catch The Stewardesses.... the first 3-d porn! hahahahaha...came out about 1970... bit of an underground/cult classic. I am proud to say that my college pals starred in the film... we had a lot of fun making it - ah.... my days of misspent youth.... hey, it helped us pay our way thru UCLA....

But if it is not according to your report, I am counting on you to refund my air ticket from Had Yai and the ones of the family (huge) and our friends and colleagues and the teachers of the children and the whole staff and mechanics and local football club supporters. :)

Went to Paragon yesterday at about 4:00 PM to get two tickets, thinking I would buy them, then work out and get a bite to eat before seeing the movie at 8:30.  Mistake.  All the seats were taken except for a few edge seats at the 11:30 show.  So I decided to get tickets for today.  No luck with any decent seat until 8:30 tonight!

I hope it is worth the wait.  :)

Wow!

Wow is right, I was flabbergasted at your first story about buying tickets yesterday for todays show, Im taking it that was at Paragon.

I was thinking about going up there in the next couple of days, I might let everyone calm down a bit for a couple of weeks before going now....thanks for the info. :)

I am sure it will be better during the week.  While I was in line on Saturday getting my ticket for yesterday (Sunday), they kept announcing that you can buy tickets online for advance shows.

See the movie now or later, but see it.  It lived up to the hype, in my humble opinion.

A few posters have said its a great film but is that just down to the special effect or is there something more substantial to it? What is the main message of the movie?

The special effects are mind-boggling, and the visuals are stunningly beautiful.  Attention to detail is very much in evidence--things happen for a logical reason, and all the background things which go on are finely crafted.  But the story is the main driver here.  However, and I hate to bring this up as it may turn off some people (particularly given the recent Global Warming threads), this is a "green" story (with a little anti-imperialism thrown in vis-a-vis Africa of the last century).  Over 85% of the people who saw the movie loved it, but that means 15% did not like it. And quite frankly, given the craftsmanship in all aspects of the movie, the only reason i can think of for anyone not liking it is that they are offended by the green message, that Hollywood is preaching to them again.

But please, even if you hate the green message, see the movie.  Suspend politics for the 2:45 the movie runs, and just enjoy. Enjoy the love story, the action, the discovery of a new culture.  Just sit back and take it all in.

I did some searching, and I found some negative reviews (most are uniformly positive.)

The theme of the few negative reviews was in the line of it was too "Dances with Wolves" or too "white man's guilt."  I can see why some people might think that even if I strongly disagree with the sentiment. So I would advise anyone to just forget politics and enjoy the movie for the entertainment value it provides.

Very entertaining film. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Definitely see the 3D version. At Paragon Cinemplex, 3D in the regular screening halls costs 260 baht, in Imax 300 baht, so might as well spring for Imax. :)

Sure the story is cliched in its Rousseauian noble savage approach but the medium is the message here.

Watched it yesterday IMAX 3D Siam Paragon.

Booked my tickets over the phone arrived 10 minutes before door opening time for a p1ssed off box office attendant to huff and puff, look annoyed and then scream at us that the tickets/Chairs that we booked where no longer available. Our group of 8 had to choose new seats in a packed cinema. We found one group of 8 seats in an ok location, not the prime location we wanted that we had booked 10 hours ahead. We got to the entrance of the screen on time to wait for 30 minutes for the doors to open. What was even more annoying was the seats that we had booked ahead for this showing (that we could not have) had a sign on the box office attendants screen showing "booked by telephone or internet". When we sat down to watch the movie our pre-booked seats where vacant for the whole movie. Cramped seats, bad if not rude service, stale popcorn, post mix drink levels set to water, this was for Fanta red and coke, the list went on.

The movie was nothing less then sensational.

I am a movie buff and I can tell you this is landmark movie for the use of special effects and cross real life, CGI production. Story: as others have posted is Dances With Wolves, Last Samurai blar blar blar on steroids. I post on a movie forum and I always grade movies not in numbers or stars but in how it would be bought for my movie collection.

It goes like this.

Watch it at the movies then buy on DVD the day it is released

Buy it on DVD when it arrives on sale as I want it in my collection.

Pirate bay it as fast as I can, watch it, then decide if it is worth buying.

Wait for it to arrive on TV and watch it then, if I am bored.

Switch channels and watch yet another re-run when it is on TV

This one is watch it at least 2 times at the movies then buy on DVD the day it is released

I only do this with Star Wars movies. :)

If you are not a sci-fi fan please go to watch it, just for the movie spectacle that it is.

We're trying to book tickets for the Paragon IMAX 3D theater. We want to know what's the difference between the 3 tix prices (??, 3xx, 500), but we can't get through via phone. Anyone here know what the difference is?

The 500 is for the honeymoon chairs, so it is really 1,000 for two.  The seats a re nice, and you get a blanket and pillow, but being backset from the seats in front so people can walk back and forth, the view to teh screen can have some interference from the heads of the people in the last of the regular rows.  My date for the movie is rather short, and she had to sit on her pillow and lean forward in order to be able to see the Thai subtitles.

The next highest cost (360?) is for the rear half of the theater (minus the honeymoon chairs.)  The lowest price is for the front rows.  For IMAX, I really would not recommend the lowest prices seats.

Saw it in 3D here in Delhi on Sat 26th. 3D and special effects excellent. Story on the thin side with (sorry in advance - two dimensional characters) but frankly you do not really notice until afterwards. Very comfortable arrangement in premium lounge (Think top level business class leather airline seat) but sound at least three notches too high for comfort. Worth the (equiv) THB1265 for two paid? Yes for me (although my Thai G/F visiting did not like the movie).

Saw it in 3D pattaya central. Low contrast, low brightness, bad colors and littlebit blur like watching it in very dark sunglasses. Need to take another look in 2D to make decision which better

The movie has nice effects, it's entertaining, but for sure not that exceptional sophisticated like for instance "Blade Runner" seen in the early 80s or "The Omega man" & "A Clockwork Orange" in the early 70s. :)

Haven't seen anyone make the claim that it is. It's more fantasy than science fiction.

Positive

Great special effects - the animals are a very interesting take on ones that inhabit Earth. The colours and landscapes really do transport you into a new world.

Could help people to respect the environment in which they live IF the message is taken in the right way.

Negative

Complete Gaia religion/environmental/anti-human propaganda from start to finish.

I fear this film will be used to further propagate the whole global warming hoax and the idea that humans are to blame and are ripe for a culling.

I would recommend people see it, just make sure you sit close to the screen to get the full benefit of the effects and be conscious of the indoctrination you are being subjected to.
