December 23, 200916 yr Hi there I'm in need of a new laptop as I think my current laptop is emitting some harmful radiation. I'll probably end up impotent or with cancer if I don't act soon. Anyway, I've decided that the Asus laptops look good value and should be a good fit for me, but with the current exchange rate being so <deleted> (53.5 to the pound now) and things not really being that cheap over here anyway, I'm wondering whether it's better value to buy here or in the UK in a few months when I'm back? A lot of the Asus laptops don't have Windows 7 installed so I'd have to get it whacked on in Pantip. I'd prefer the original version if I can, which seems standard in England - is this right? Any input on the above, especially the general issue of cost, would be hugely appreciated. Cheers, Jack
December 23, 200916 yr Where are you going to use it the most? Thats where you buy it. Ummmm.... why? OP, I think you will find it cheaper in the UK, with the added benefit of original software, but 5 minutes on google will give you a definitive answer.
December 23, 200916 yr shortly after xmass there would be up to 50% sale on the older models in the uk, your relatives in the uk can buy it for you
December 24, 200916 yr 100% cheaper in the Uk.Had a look when I was back last.I was back aug. sept, oct , nov this year. Been here 7 years and seen too many people get done buying here including family. Even if they were a little more expensive and they are not if you are in the UK then buy it in the sales.you will also get a warranty which can be used in all participating countries. You will also get real softwear...I bought mine in Jan. sales last year. get the real thing buy in the UK.
December 25, 200916 yr Cheaper in the US than in UK, by 1/3. But if you have to buy either here or UK then don't forget to claim your VAT back if you qualify.
December 25, 200916 yr Cheaper in The UK and you will get a garantee, I think the poster is talking about Ir radiation. the same as TV, Microwaves and Computer screens give out, Edited December 25, 200916 yr by Thongkorn
December 26, 200916 yr laptops do not emit e-xrays, only the older type of screens (as well as tv sets). They do have lead on the glass, to minimise radiation, and additionally to computer screens you can buy radiation shield which fits ovet the screen. All together it's a minimal radiation - in a year it would be less, than a single lungs or the other medical procedure. you have to be exposed to a fairly large radiation to see harm to your health, but than nothing can be done to help.
December 27, 200916 yr Hi i think the prices will be only slightly different, at least in Switzerland it would be.. if they got a promo it even would be cheaper. and you can be sure it's first grade laptops, while in TH they sell also B grade stuff. the thai signs on the buttons might bother you. or are a benefit since your wife/gf want to use it as well? the standard RAM they add is usually higher in Swiss. that's important. The latest is DDR3 technology the latest processors are Core 2 duo or quad processors, would have to look up what exact terms. the guaranty in TH will be only for TH while in Europe it might be worldwide the guaranty in Swiss in some shops is 2 years while in TH it's 1 years except Asus and Lenovo some models 2 years (some Lenovo used to be 3) if you don't need the latest model and technology you can get it cheapest in TH at a sale, with free upgrade of RAM or some accessories or Acer Netbooks give free external DVD drive with some models. there are millions of models looking same with only slight difference it's big work to compare them all and easy to miss a small detail in the specs. sometimes IT center at fortune tower at rajada got better deals (free RAM) than pantip. since repairs with laptops are costly i would not consider to buy second hand. a friend bought a approx. 18-20'000 b brand new HP and the graphic card broke after the guaranty was expired and the repair at HP would have been 12'500 b but a repair shop at pantip charged him 2'500. make sure they remove all parts removable so they not get lost and changed to no-brand parts while in repair. good luck

December 27, 200916 yr Agree with QED at the moment the UK does seem to be cheaper than Thailand to buy a Laptop. It also rather depends on the specification. My own experience last July this year is as follows: COMPAQ Presario CQ60 15.6 Screen 140 Gb Hard Disk DVD Drive 1Gb Ram 5in1 Card Reader Webcam & Mic 3 X USB Ports £250..... Thai Baht at the time was 54 to 1 £ = 13500 dont think it would have been cheaper in Thailand at that time,or even now.
