Yesterday I underwent the highest level of comprehensive health screening at Bumrungrad Hospital.

Yes, it was comprehensive -- for example, as comprehensive a blood panel as you can imagine unless you were searching for something totally atypical. Lung x-ray. Cardio-vascular heart check (oops...could only do 4 minutes instead of 8-12...but at least the results up to that point were perfect). Eye, nose, and throat check. EKG. A number of other tests. It took from 11-4, so it was a long day...lots of waiting in between tests, but at least their waiting areas were pleasant and so was the staff. Overall I was very pleased. It was even "on special" for 13,000 baht instead of approximately 19,000 baht. Near the end of the day a doctor went over most of the results with me, giving advice, and seeing if I had questions. Done visually using a computer and the detailed results will also be sent to me via email.

A couple of things:

1. If you do one you might want to bring your own "jogging clothes" for the cardiovascular test and ultrasound test. I am fat, but even for me the clothes were waaaaay to big for me. I honestly thought my pants would fall off. The top should be able to be unbuttoned or unzipped since you will have electrodes on you.

2. Have an earlier appointment. At about 3 p.m. they found something on the ultrasound test...but they don't do consultations after 3 p.m. The old, "Our doctor will call your doctor" routine. So, I thought I was going to walk away thinking they found something really serious. Panic time. Am I dying? By luck, I had another appointment for recent food poisoning with another doctor at 4 p.m. He rounded up the results for me...something of which I had been aware for a decade -- one kidney stone. They couldn't take 30 seconds to say, "You have a kidney stone"?

Another thing I want to give them credit for, on my last regular doctor visit they made a mistake and charged me 350 baht for a medicine I had bought away from the hospital. I never noticed the mistake; the found it...called me, emailed me, reminded me at the hospital 3 times yesterday. So, I got my refund...at their urging. So, we know they are honest, too!

Now if I would just heal from my recent food poisoning!

But, good job Bumrungrad. Consider a health screening.

That's the one I did. To avoid the waiting you really need to go early. I think they start at 7.30am. I started around 9am and was finished about 1.30pm, I think. I had told them to skip the lower abdomen ultrasound because they need you to have a full bladder, and I have a bladder condition that makes that difficult, but after several tries they brought in some ajahn who managed to get a successful scan with a half-full bladder.

Although you expect top service with the most expensive checkup, I felt that I did get it from everyone concerned. No better or worse than the previous 5-6 years when I went to Samitivej.

Did this include a hormonal check as well, testosterone, dhea, estrogen, thyroid, and cortisol. If not you may want to have these checked as low readings can be the cause of other physical conditions.

Not sure...there was so much...I do remember the doctor mentioning thyroid.
