I have got a 1-year non-immigrant O multiple entry visa issued in Kuala Lumpur. It's still valid for 4 months. Unfortunately I am travelling much more than anticipated and I have to get a new passport.

Is it possible to have my visa transferred from the old passport into the new one without too much hassle? Has anyone got a relevant experience?

Which country passport? For USA just go to US Citizen Services at the embassy and get extra pages added at no cost, takes 1 hour or less. Check the embassy hours on their website.

I did it a few years ago at 'Suan Plu.' Very straight forward...they'll stamp your new passport and write in the info.., name, visa type, number etc. They'll copy your old and new passport, and you may have to fill in/ sign a form.

The worst part is sitting around and waiting.

No, they will transfer your permitted to stay stamp, and make a note in your new passport referencing the visa in your old passport. Very simple job at your local immi.

After that you will need to travel with both passports until the visa expires.

Get a new passport and go to immigration,. Immigration will transfer your permission to stay stamp and details of your current visa to your new passport for free. It is a simple process and is free. Don't forget to make copies of your old passport and all the stamps in it.

Immigration will not transfer the visa to your new passport! This means that while the visa is still valid you need to use both passports to enter Thailand. The old one to show you have a valid visa and the new passport to stamp your permission to stay in. After the visa is expired you only use your new passport.

Thanks so much for all your answers! Very helpful!

Regarding new pages in passport. If I could add new pages to my passport I would not have mentioned that I need a new passport...
