You cannot obtain Thai Residency by having a Thai Wife.

You can obtain annual extensions of stay if you have 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank or 40,000 Baht monthly income.

For permanent residency see here. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Camerata-s-G...ide-t74654.html

PR is essentially about YOU!

Are YOU the 'type' of person that Thailands wants to allow to stay in Thailand on a permanent basis.

('Permanent' of course has rules attached.)

Cameratas thread is excellent, as already suggested.

Actually it's very hard to obtain a permanent residency by Thai authorities. But it's very easy been considered resident here by your country (at least for mt country). When I had a non-immigrant B my embassy forced me to change my residence to Thailand even if for Thai immigration I was a "non immigrant". Retired people from my country (with non O) change their residence here, they send their pension here and they don't have to pay the tax on their pension (therefore they get more money than they would get back home).

If you have a non O based on marriage, you can obtain a document from immigration that certifies that you live here (don't remember the name) and that you can use for example to obtain o renew your driver's licence.

This picture of a vast bureaucratic process is like something from a Dickens novel, and leads me to wonder how many farangs would submit to this process...I mean, is it really worth it? Probably depends on applicant's age. At my advanced age, with a Thai wife, it's probably much easier to simply get an extension of the one-year visa year after year. Is it?

Yes. If I remember well in the last 4 years they released no permanent residency. Maybe I am confusing with Thai citizenship. Does anybody know?
