Poor Broadband Connection Up-country

Recommended Posts

My access to the internet here in Isaan is intermittent, usually a few hours a day, often little or nothing all day. I have a 2MB broadband connection via TOT. It's been even worse since about Christmas time.

Others suffering similarly??? [Apparently it doesn't affect those in BKK]. What causes it?

More important - is there a way round it?

[Example of difficulties caused - this is the fourth attempt to put this topic on the forum over several days trying - very trying].

regards

I have the same plan, and live 1/2 way between Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, more or less. We've had lines that would slow to a crawl, impossible to complete a download, etc. But since the AAG opened up, we get download speeds of generally 1Mb/s, sometimes reaching 1.6mB. And there's been virtually no downtime.

Have you called the ToT techs in yet? They will first say it's a problem with your computer, then hook up their laptop. If it's not your computer, they will say it's your modem, and run tests on that. If it's not the modem, they will say it's a problem with the wiring in your house, and will grudgingly check that. After that, they will finally check your local box and find a problem in the wiring there. If *that* doesn't work, they will literally walk the line from your house back to the box.

All that happened to me the last time the line to my house blew. My laptop and connection worked at my wife's shop, but not at home. I already had swapped the computers and modems with no success before I called the techies in. I treated them with respect, gave them a beer (11 a.m., they were happy), and lots of smiles all around. It finally got to them walking the lines, which they said wasn't their job, they'd get the line crew to come out the next day. I gave them no problems about that, thanked them respectfully, and went back into the house. After a while, I noticed their truck was still there, but they weren't. They walked the lines, could see the obvious break, borrowed a ladder (not their job to go up to the lines) and fixed it.

I cannot fault the techies at ToT...any time there's been a problem (and once it was my fault, screwed up modem settings), they have been very good, and very thorough. Just be patient with them, let them know you appreciate their work.

No matter where u live in Thailand, a 12000 Mb/s Connection is a must have here. Thailands world wide internet connection is not as good as, for example, Singapore or Malay. So you do need a High Speed to connect you fast to the World. For a couple of years i always had 2 or 4 Mbts and the Speed was very sad. I do a lot of Online Playing and Downloading. Now since a short time i got 12000 Mbts and i soooooooooooo Happy with it that i now thinking to upgrade for a 16000 Mb/s connection. But so far verything is perfect.

For example: Yesterday i downloaded a 3.2 GB FullHD 1080p "Clip" in 40min! No Joke!

Sounds like you have some local "physical/poor" phone/DSL line issues. Recommed you call TOT and have them physically come out and check your line/connection.

I have my doubts that you live in a village like the OP.

I too live out in the sticks have a TTT connection and have been told the absolute max is 2 meg as the phone lines just aren't up to the job.
