A friend of mine has just been issued with a Non Immigrant 'O' visa, which was issued for 12 months, but its not based on a marriage to a thai & he must apparently leave Thailand every 90 days. He was planning on booking a flight to Thailand with a return date to his home country in 12 months time & rely on bordering crossings every day to comply with the visa.

My question is, as he is required to leave the country every 90 days, will the airline deny him boarding or will he be denied entry into Thailand if he doesnt have a ticket for an onward journey out of Thailand within the first 90 days of arriving?

I often get asked questions by friends assuming I know everything & naturally I want to make sure he receives the correct advice.

He has to leave and re enter at least every 90 days.

He will get 90 days on each entry.

Do his last one just before the Visa expires and he will get another 90 days making a total of 15 months.

He will have no problems with airlines or Immigration as he has a Visa.

Thanks LB.

Ohh, okay, so it won't matter if he books his flight to return a year after OR perhaps has a ONE WAY ticket, so that he can take advantage of that extra 3 months, stretching it to a near total of 15 months?

One way travel is allowed on any visa. And the multi entry visa would be the same 90 day stay limitation regardless of the reason for issue - only if you extend your stay at an immigration office inside Thailand could it be more than 90 days per stay.

having a Non-Immigrant 'O' is a requirement for working but your friend will also have to apply for a work permit as well for working.

I have a Non-Immigrant 'O' I have never read anywhere about having to leave the country every 90 days, how ever he will have to go to Thai Immigration every 90 days for (Notification of staying over 90 days) no fee required for that.

and that's 90 days not 3 months

The OP does not mention anything about his friend wishing to work.

He is talking about a Multi Entry Non O Visa in which a maximum of 90 days is allowed for each entry.

You are talking about a 12 month extension of stay in which you have to report to Immigration every 90 days.

Not the same thing.

Not really a requirement. He could just as easily get a work permit on a Non B.

In fact, there have been many reports of employers telling employees they'd have to change to a Non B to get a WP.

Thanks LB, yes none of that other stuff that the other poster mentions is relevant to this one. Thankyou.
