Police scour Asia for GP insurance scam suspect

The Hertfordshire Fraud Squad is investigating Mark Hazelwood, 46, who was banned by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) this month for "dishonestly misleading clients" over non-existent insurance policies to cover the costs of replacement doctors.

If you get a photo be sure to post it in the Pattaya Forum as he is sure to turn up here, selling insurance or timeshares, befriending the (not so) great and the (not so) good.

I don't understand why Westerners, such as you lot, think you need to be active duty police officers. Wow it's like, I came all the way to Asia so I could track down American / Euro suspects.

Let the police do their jobs. If you see someone of interest then simply phone it in, but otherwise just be a normal citizen. One thing being in Asia has taught me is that the West is becoming increasingly draconian and Fuedal. Single White males are their only targets. They don't need our help.

trouble is they wont here unless there is some $$$$$ in it for them

THE OP is merely trying highlight a fugative that may be in thailand, and a TV member may come across him, thus being able to inform the police or interpool and have him arrested

but my bet is he is in Pattaya if anywhere.

Synergys Ethical and now Aquote hits doctors and patients

Mark%20Hazelwood.jpg

This could have horrendous consequences. Let's say your family doctor commits a dreadful blunder leaving you needing medical care for the rest of your life.

The doctor's medical insurers would be the obvious people to pay for this care.

Which could be a problem if the doc was insured through Synergys Ethical Limited.

The word "ethical" would be funny if it wasn't so sick, because this broking firm took premiums from doctors but didn't pass them on to the insurance companies.

So doctors, through no fault of their own, were uninsured.

Last year City watchdog the Financial Services Authority banned Synergys Ethical from "regulated activities" such as selling insurance.

Now the FSA has warned about a medical insurance company trading as Aquote, saying it too is not passing premiums on to the insurance providers.

"It appears to be trading nationally, selling a range of locum insurance policies to GP surgeries.

"We believe Aquote is being run by the former director of Synergys Ethical."

The FSA does not name that director but we will. Step forward 45-year-old Mark Hazelwood of Whitwell, Herts.

We paid him a visit but all he'd say was: "No comment."

Aquote uses two web addresses - aquote.biz and myaquote.com - and is not connected to "A Quote", which is part of Hero Insurance Services Ltd, a firm regulated by the FSA.

Westerners or local, it doesn't matter. We, as a society need to play a role in this day and age. 'Policing' the state, active duty police officers or whatever you wanna call it. You watch my back, i watch yours. The numbers go tenfold when we as a society participate in the well being of those around us.

what a strange response ?

Evidently you don’t believe in the concept of “ community policing “ ?

I wonder if you would change your mind if ever you found yourself as a victim of crime ?

Well, think of it less public spiritedly and more selfishly for a minute.

If this guy waddled up to you on the beach one day and tried to sell you a convincing investment story, which caught your attention, would you be more likely to invest with him, or less likely, knowing he is an (alleged) swindler?

If you commit a crime in your home country and get tumbled, well, just hop on a plane and come to Thailand. There is no where easier, just arrive and stay as long as you wish. No vetting, no questions asked.

The guy is probably in Patpong right now having a Thai sandwich in some soapy massage parlour spending his ill gotten gains.

These days there are only 2 options left for foreign criminals. Go to jail, go directly to jail or move to Thailand.

Am I alone in thinking that perhaps post such as these are placed by the authorities?

Well, I was wondering how much of their resources were involved in "scouring Asia."

They probably drew straws to see which lucky detective got a trip to sin city.

I agree. We never know the whole story behind things like this, and never will. It could be that someone is being framed, and you are playing right into the hands of the real villain(s) by turning him in.

There is a very strong 'hang him, dam_n the questions' contingent among the expats here at TV. Believing what you're told makes it all easier (the classic 'no brainer'), accusations are as good as guilty verdicts, and it doesn't have to interfere with the drinking regimen.

Rubbish !

So are you saying that it is even wrong for The Times newspaper to report on this matter ?

If so why ? And if not what is wrong with posting a link to that article in this expat forum ?

In the end I am sure his own barrister will be far more capable than you of arguing

why he may be innocent and will do so in the proper venue i.e a UK court of law :)
