Suda Restaurant, Sukhumvit 14

Almost a year ago, I gave this establishment a bloody good write up on a few websites and was proud to take friends here for meals as I liked the food and thought the service was ok.

Today I went there with the intention of having late lunch and as they were obviously open, took my seat in full view of the staff.

Nobody came over to take a drink order, or to ask about my food order. I am a well known face here and always order swiftly and without fuss.

Tables of tourists were being fussed over and the one look I got from a waitress was a scowl. So I slammed my menu down and ate at the Black Swan round the corner instead.

Maybe this is the problem:

I am a well known face here
I am competing against tourists who would leave a minimum of 100 Baht tips.

Anyone else decided to boycott this or any other place for the same reason?

Are you a well known 'liked' face there DJ Pat? :D

Surely management would have noticed you and got your order sorted quick if you were a good regular there?

How long they leave you hangin for?

Sure you so well known there?

Better start leaving 100 baht tips dude. :o

I always try to eat away from tourist areas, always expect bad service there.

I have been going there for a few years now and never had bad service. I have had O.K. service but never enough to anoy me. Usually I go there a few times in a two to three week period and then am out of the country for a few months. The food( especially the cashew Gai Chili) is always good!!

Shame cos the food was generally ok, a bit bland after several visits though.

My office is in a building which has a pub in the basement. The food there is good, the atmosphere is nice and place is very convenient (for me). I used to lunch there almost every day - a tab of Baht 300+ when alone and much more when entertaining clients. I used to dine there often as well and tipped in the range of Baht 50 or higher, depending on the check.

Suddenly, I started noticing that the staff ignored me and rushed to take orders from tourists or other walk-in customers. The manager would not as much as nod his head at me whenever he was present. :o

Needless to say, I eat and entertain elsewhere unless extremely rushed for time. All my loss - I guess! :D

Gave the "SUDA" the elbow about 10 years ago.

Miserable staff (although the owner not too bad) food so so,rotten service, not particulary cheap and of course they are all out sucking up to the tourists (mostly Sweds /German... and yai yai tips)...old and dated.

Re the "Mucky Duck"...booze OK but never tried the grub due to 2 much Fag Fumes...mai Chop. :o

Also gave Suda the knock after the first few weeks of living here. Got terrible gut rot from an omlette I had there which lasted nearly 3 days.

I know that, back then, it was probably "acclimatisation", but decided to play it safe and boycott the place anyhow. Haven't been back since.

Sphere, you wouldn't happen to be talking about a pub named after a famous English city? Regular there for a long time now and always been very satisfied with the service levels and quality of the food....

Is there a pub named after Liverpool? :o

Food quality is excellent and service is usually good. However, their service has a different approach at lunchtime when they are not so busy and half their staff is groveling at the tourist tables? :D
