I am consolidating few cases about visa application/re-entry from Msia/Spore friends.

1/Msian-stayed in Hatyai for 3 years, never use visa, always go U-turn at the border. Crossed by land.

2/Sporean-stayed in Udon Thani for 2 years, always go Laos to get double-entry visa. Crossed by land.

3/Msians-stayed in Chiang Mai for 4 months with double-entry visa obtained from Penang. After the 60*2 visa expired, went to Laos but only got 15-days entry. Reason given was because they travelled by land. If they could show flight ticket, 30-day will be given. (Normal circumstances, Msian could get in/out Thailand for 30-day entry without visa.) [comparing to #1/#2]

This is not about Thai visa policay, but the Burma regulations.

4/Msian-Stayed in Chiang Mai, crossing over Chiang Rai border to Burma, being charged THB500 for the Burma gov. They said they accept USD10 too (a notice pasted on the wall as well).

5/Msian/Sporeans-Stayed in Chiang Mai, crossing over Mae Sot border to Burma, wanted to pay USD10 but rejected, said only accept THB500. [comparing to #4]

So, now,

I really do not know why is there such differences from 1 place to another. Or it's something base-on-the-mood-of-the-day (of tht individual)!?

For my own, I stay in Chiang Mai. To obtain double-entry visa from Penang is not too difficult. But after the 60*2 visa expired, what is the best option I should go for? Getting back to Penang for a new double-entry visa is the last n worst thing i will consider doing (since i stay in Chiang Mai!).

Many thanks in advance.

Read the visa section of this forum. Ton's of advice there. Lot of useless or wrong info but look out the posts for Lopburi and the mods.

I.e. 2 x 60 days tourist visa can be extended in-country in immigration for additional 30 days. Land border crossing is 15 days stamp without a visa nowadays while flying in get's you 30 days etc etc. And yes, requirements change all the time and vary between different immigration points.

Hi, my husband and I went to Phuket for our honeymoon, and are very serious about working and staying and sent our child to school there for a unlimited period of time. I've read up re immigration etc...and just need to talk to somebody that can answer my questions...can you refer me to a website, even if we can just stay there for 3-5years? What are your views on schooling there? :)

buddhist: I can't comment except to reiterate MJo in that the application of the regulations varies not only with the crossing point but with each individual Embassy or Consulate.

christae: what is your nationality?

Same goes for Buddhist, what is your nationality is an important factor.

There is always the option for studying in Thailand, that could be Thai but also something else. As long as the course is with a officially recognized school and yiu study at least 4 hours a week. A typical Thai course would cost around 29,000 a year.

Malaysia national gets a 30 day entry by land but only when done at the Malay/Thai border. At other points they get the normal 15 days.

As this poster appears to have planned to be in Buddhist meditation here in Thailand for much of the last year find it strange he is not able to obtain an official extension of stay rather than making visa runs. Or did your meditation plans change? Or are over?
