"the freaky freaky party"

Am sure everyone in Lamai must have heard the techno blaring out ALL night!!! Didn't stop till 7 am, when my Thai neighbors decided to retaliate with their own music... which blared out for a half an hour after the techno had stopped... cant' blame them but that meant I got double the dose of crap music at VERY LOUD VOLUME!!!

Please, someone tell me this is not gonna be a regular party...? :)

There is another thread running, with a similar problem. The biggest problem on Samui is noise pollution ,the more they let them go, the harder it will be to reign back in.

I just wonder what type of big spenders go to these do's & who do they actually cater for?

Good point. I also wonder how many potential homebuyers might be put off by these events. There's probably people that have already bought concerning about what might be in store for them.

Atleast renting you can move without much fuss, and no one seems to want to deal with the noise pollution situation

There is a similar "freaky freaky party" at Chaweng. We can hear loud music from the distance of appr. 3 kilometers, about once a week, 11pm to 6am. I assume people who live in uphill communities facing Chaweng are not pleased with the party as well. Is that a Lake View Party?

P.S. And please people, do not suggest go and join the dancing.

Its a holiday island. This is what brings in the money so don't expect it to change anytime soon. :)

Live with it or move to Hua Hin.

You're right. Whatever the pros and cons of commercially promoted noise pollution, this is a holiday destination for (mostly) young people who seem to like to jump up and down to excruciatingly load "music" for an extended period of time. Can't complain, really.

True it is a holiday island

But there are a lot of people who come here on holiday with their families who do not want this imposition. Also, there are many people here who wanted to enjoy (early) retirement or have made their base here, they have every right to complain.

I thought that Samui was trying move upmarket and encourage investment and "high end" holidaymakers.

Catering for a whole load of nocturnal revellers in the interest of short term greed is just not good for long term business. Already Chaweng is being likened to Pattaya and Patong, I suppose Lamai is next on the list.

Who cares as long as my bars are making money, right?

I was waiting for this answer :D :D Same people that whine about not having enough tourists or income, will always lean that way.

At the end of the day, the greed of the transient entrepreneurs & their attitudes will be the death of this island & many other destinations in thailand.

Holiday island indeed, but I suppose it's only for a certain type of clientele is it? I have had many a conversation with certain promoters & self proclaimed entertainers, as you guys say, the don't give a hoot , but ask them if they would like that noise where they live , it's a different story.

Double standards , great to sit up high & say if you don't like it move , what about the other tourists on the island?

I don't mean the young ones that come here on a limited budget, go & get drunk & stoned or whatever, on frequently their first overseas trip .

I'm talking about the other 90% of the tourists , the other residents that contribute to Island tourism through their businesses , being hotels , tours, restaurants or purely their patronage of local businesses , do you just sweep them all under the carpet?

Everyone can have fun & enjoy themselves, just do it in a sensible way & in the right area. Trying to make this island a clone of KPG is not the right answer .

Let's see how many businesses will survive, when your spending tourists & ex-pats , leave this island, a lot of people will be dancing to a different tune then.

But then I could be wrong, because the same people causing these problems will be gone anyway, they tend to have a limited shelf life.

People think because you live on Samui you are immune to any laws as long as you pay the right people.

That smug attitude & belief is wrong & a great fallacy, there is other avenues of complaint & several people are or have taken them.

Oh, come on.... It always has been a young peoples holiday destination. Why come to an island with your family and then complain you don't like it. Google samui. Or do some other research. You want quiet, go to Kho Tao, Koh Chang or the Amazon rain forest.. Really. :D That is such a lame excuse. It's like going to Las Vegas and complaining about all the casinos. Same with retirees. Why retire to an island with a vibrant night life. Doh!!! Retire to Hua Hin, for goodness sake. And who, apart from (maybe) you is comparing Chaweng with Pattaya and Patong? Have you been to those two places recently??? And god forbid we have any more "high end" holidaymakers who never leave their 5 star cocoon and add nothing to the local economy. They just put cash into international conglomerates who build these places, obscuring the beach for everyone else, use loads of water and electricity, clog up the sewerage system and pay no infrastructure tax to help repair the damage they do to this island.

Vibrant night life ? Since when? Not 15 or 10 or 5 years ago. This is a spreading phenomena,to try & compete with KPG.

Go & ask Samui tourist association or the hoteliers what they think.

As for 5 star customers pouring money into the pockets of foreign conglomerates, are you serious? What about all the local staff they employ, the services they provide? Ok I will not enter into this,as it gets rather complicated for some people,of what infusion these places do have into the local communities.

Last time I looked 90 percent of bars are owned by foreigners. :D Is that different then a conglomerate?

Not everyone wants to spend his holiday at Somchai's hotel or rooms with a fan for 299 baht a night & spend the rest of his money getting drunk & womanising :D :D

Oh gosh old age catching up, for me to say something like that :D

Sounds as though you have a very vested interest! I agree with you 100% Oak. The only "constructive" :D suggestion that these transients can make, is "move to Hua Hin". Why? I like it here and I don't see why a few selfish xxxxxx should dictate that a lot of people should be kept awake all night.

I wrote in my first post on this subject "Whatever the pros and cons of commercially promoted noise pollution... blah, blah, blah" I have no vested interest whatsoever and am often kept awake by the bloody Halfmoon parties at Lakeview. So I am not a "selfish moron" or a "transient". Thank you very much. But I do have the right to express an opinion without being insulted. mad.gif

I live on Lamai beach road and i didnt hear a dam_n thing (top floor central beach road):). I do sympathise with the families and couples which lamai is now getting on a far larger scale basis than back packers.

How do you propose that the people that have had their lives ruined are going to sell their houses in Samui?

Who would want to buy a home in the middle of a night club zone?

I am afraid that these selfish money grabbing in it for the short time people could not give a toss for the majority of decent residents.

Such a shame . Samui should be a great place to live.

Unfortunately selfish greedy individuals are turning Samui into a nightmare.

Your right Rooo, but as English doesn't seem to be the mother tongue I can understand his confusion. :)

after many years i gave up on Samui because of noise, i did not go to hua hin but pattaya, 5kms outside town and cannot hear a thing. a few people are loosing the island a lot of money. why does a party have to be an out door event in Samui that keeps people awake all night. these parties after all are illegal. Samui going down hill fast hence low season 2 weeks after christmas.

No, hotel bookings are good and stay like that at least for the next weeks.

Regarding the parties you are right. Can't understand that too. They even filled the whole North of Samui with sound from Koh Som. But people even as far away as Menam complained.

A good remote place before was at the "Secret Beach" right on the way to Choeng Mon coming from Chaweng. Nobody got disturbed.

Samui is a holiday island, however the vast majority of tourists don't go to parties.
