I have recently read an article that suggests that the Thailand Treasury Department is currently investigating whether they should produce 20 baht coins. Sounds ok at first then it goes on to say that they would stop printing the 20 baht banknotes. In my humble opinion I don't think I need anymore coins in my pockets. I already have a tough time deciding what to do with the satang, trying to find all of the coins after I sit down and they fall out of my pocket, and determining the difference between the one and two baht coins (not so much after they have changed the color). I hope this does not come to fruition. I think a 5,000 baht or 10,000 baht banknote would be a better item for the Treasury Department to investigate.

When the Thailand Treasury Department develope and produce new coins many people going to make losts of money out of it, that is the only reason.

To make it not so obvious they have a investigation and produce a report.

Nothing to do with better or not, yes and i agree stop with the satang coins and introduce 5.000 banknotes that woud be a wise decision.

Bigger and heavier as the 10 B coins, i dont need more weight in my pockets :)

If you stop and think about it; 50 satang=1pence (U.K.) or 2 cents (US and EURO).

The time has not arrived to get rid of satangs.

5,000 Baht notes for a third world country? Not yet. Maybe a 2,000 baht note would be useful.

Imagine paying a songthaew driver with a 5,000 baht note!

Oh Syd, dissapointed to see a man of your experience here still referring to Thailand as a third world country, please - developing nation, would a third world country actually have a treasury department!!?? :)

isnt it funny though when paying a 75/80baht taxi fare, and hand over a 100baht note. the driver never has any change.

or is that just me being my usual cynical farang self!

They made the new 1 baht coins, but the automatic machines do not accept them.

The feeling of the coins is different too, so the blind were confused, although the size

remained the same
