400,000 Baht Room Safe Theft At Central Pattaya Hotel

Featured Replies

Late on Friday Night, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wirawoot from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Pattaya Place Guest House located in Soi 13 off Pattaya Third Road to investigate the theft of a safe-box from a room occupied by a German Tourist. Officers were directed to room number 301 on 3rd floor and met with Mr. Hans Gunter aged 68. He returned to his room after a night out and realized his door was open and the room safe had disappeared. Inside was 150,000 Baht and 5,000 Euro’s along with Mr. Gunter’s passport and plane ticket along with personal items. Khun Sooksak aged 32, the owner of the guesthouse explained that a middle-eastern man had checked in but did not complete any registration documents. He was assigned room number 302 which is opposite the victims room. Although the man had not checked out, his room was found to be empty apart from a single shirt in the wardrobe. Police have received a description of the suspect and they will attempt to locate and arrest him and recover the stolen items for Mr. Gunter.

I guess he never heard of credit-cards, ATM cards, or travelers checks...sometimes you really have to wonder about people.

We shouldn't underestimate the lengths some people will go to so they don't have to pay high bank charges to access their own money.

Half-wit

Unless he is insured and working with the other guy!!! :)

I thik the guest house should indemnify him for his loss if they failed to follow correct checking in procedures and ID checks.

Too late for indemnity.

1 No check in documents.

2 Assigned a room opposite one with a vast sum of money in the safe.

3 Managed to sneak out with the safe.

I shall not be staying at this place.

How come no one noticed a foreigner walking around with a safe ? :)

If he didnt use the front entrance to walk out with the safe how did the Middle Eastern guy

know an alternative escape route where he could leave with a safe ?

this story doesnt make sense

The notorious "Middle Eastern guy" of Pattaya strikes again. :)

:D

Indeed. Khaek, khaek as the hotel owner said.

The notorious "Middle Eastern guy" of Pattaya strikes again. :)

Wow, I think I saw him the other day. Near the suit shop, I believe.

Many people get a false sense of security with the in-room safes. Yes, they are good to use. But many times I have noticed that they are only bolted into the cabinet with small bolts in the wood. That can be easily broken off with only a screwdriver.

They haven't caught him yet. I mean, really, how many middle-eastern guys can there be in Pattaya?

As suggested before, maybe the thief is actually connected to the hotel in some way. I'm not trying to slander, but it would be much easier to take the safe into a janitors closet or somewhere similar, do what needs to be done to open it, take the cash, and dispose of the safe after the police are gone and the smoke clears. Just a thought.

BTW, what is that stuffed into the door jam? Is that plastic? Was it in there when this happened? Hmmmm....that might be a clue! :)

Yeah, that plastic looks suspicious. Could very well have been stuffed in there to prevent the latch from extending properly.

Looking at the first picture, it seems that the victim is pointing this out to someone (police?), that's making a note of it.

After much thought and consideration, I am calling for a crack-down on middle eastern safe thieves
