Compaq Presario Cq40 Screen Problem

Featured Replies

I bought this laptop less than a year ago. I have read on the net that hundreds of these pc's have displays that flickers. Now mine is not usable anymore. Many people in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, HK... says that it takes a month or more to get it repaired, and when they get the pc back, some still have the problem.

So I bought a display (se picture) and an Acer laptop that stays in the car whereever I go.

Is it possible to have the the display removed from the Compaq, so it becomes a 'flat keyboard with a computere'?

Thanks.

While I can't comment on the screen-removal surgery, I can suggest something else: if you get an external mouse and keyboard you can put the laptop itself off to the side or behind the monitor. Probably not a good idea to close the lid due to heat from the disk drive and CPU.

Then again if you pulled out the hard drive and used it externally it would drastically reduce the heat.

I'm a little distressed about hearing this. I have a CQ40-T4200 that I bought just after Songkran last year. No screen problems so far. except for Win7 saying my screen resolution is not optimal, but this doesn't mean anything.

Have you tried re-installing your screen drivers?

It's a piece of shit, please read:

this

But you are right, the best solution would be to get a keyboard and a mouse or a piece of wood to raise the monitor.

Thanks for the link.

The CQ40 line has a bunch of variations regarding CPUs and GPUs, and other things. I looked through the messages trying to see which ones had the problem; only one message I found actually dealt with this but I couldn't tell what model he was using (problematic English). I admit I didn't read every message in the 20 pages.

My previous laptop (Fujitsu) died of overheating, which caused other complications, so I've learned my lesson and always have a fan unit under the CQ40, though I don't always have the fans on. Maybe my efforts to keep the temperatures of the thing down have helped.

I wonder if the hardware guys in Pranthip (and other such places) are familiar with this and have their own fix. Like someone in the forum said, it may not be the screen itself, but the circuitry that drives it. It could be 30 baht for the part, but a lot of effort to remove and replace.

The connections between laptop screens and main unit are much too delicate for my clumsy fingers (learned that one the hard way :) )
