The Adventure Of English

Featured Replies

I recently downloaded and am watching an 8 part BBC documentary called "The Adventure of English". It provides a historical and linguistic overview of the English language from 500AD until now. Has anybody else seen it?

It's rather interesting and could also be useful as a resource for (advanced) English language learning. Pity that it doesn't have any subtitles though. I wonder if any are available for it or how to go about making a .srt subtitle file to go with the .avi files. Any ideas?

In any case, it's worth a look as it does provide good background material that would be useful for any teacher of English.

Cheers...

Edit: Typo...

If you pm me I can give you a link to download it.

So you have a link that includes the shows with subtitles or subtitle files? Or you have information about making subtitles for the .avi video clips? I'm sorry, you aren't being really precise about what 'it' is.

If you've a link to a download that's great, I'm sure others will appreciate that. I've already got it though. :)

We are very cautious about having direct links on the site, but this is an educational tool, and unless it is a commercial site, we can post it. At a minimum, we can post it without the http part, which makes it not a direct link.

But thanks to the poster for being concerned.

I dont know about subtitles I didnt download it, but if you are thinking about thai subtitles how many do you see on anything else besides movies in thailand. Way too much work to add them anyway. I dot know if it is a commercial site but I just dont post links.

I wasn't interested in Thai subtitles, my bad for not being clear on that. I was hoping for English subtitles. Even making them would seem to be a task. Have to do without I guess...
