Google Earth

Featured Replies

I am trying to see the development on Samui where I own some land and can see the view must be 5 years old or more. Where there are developments finished 5 years ago, it still shows barren undeveloped land.

I have the latest version of Google Earth, Nov 09 and am wondering why this would be. I check occasionally and it's always the same picture, in fact there is a cloud just beside where my land is and it's always the same cloud.

What did you expect ? A live satellite feed ? Images on google earth are often quite old, some of the large cities have newer information.

From what I've read it's made up from aerial photography and satellite imagery, I wouldn't expect it to be updated very often.

Usually the image date is shown at the bottom of the Google Earth window.

The central Bangkok ones were mostly recently updated. Used to have the former bar complexes on the Asoke corner where Interchange to is, and where Chuwit's garden is.

Let me put it this way. i still see the car which i sold 9 years ago parked infront of my warehouse at miami

I can't read todays newspaper anywhere either.

Twice I have asked Google Earth to improve imagery at different rural locations in Thailand, and twice they have responded. Ok, not new pics but better to see. I think this facility is in their newsletter.

The first request took about 6 months but the second was a lot quicker. What I mentioned was that in both areas the local schoolkids would be very interested.

If you want to know the age of the image use view, historical images. Go back one image and it gives you the date - that is the latest image available.

For sure more than 5 years. Cant see the the IBIS Hotel and "The Darwin" on Bangkok Soi 4 :)

That is also often great at finding clearer images if there is cloud cover where you want to check. I find some of the older Chiang Mai images much more detailed than the most recent.

Ahaa. Nov 2004. So no wonder the pic's so outdated. Thanks for noting that, didn't realize it before. I guess eventually GE will just update it, when is anyone's guess.
