Open Ended Ticket?

Featured Replies

For those of you who arrived in Thailand in search of work, but were not sure exactly how long you would be there or if things would work out did you get a 1 year open ended airfare or some other arrangement (one way fare?)?

I am not sure if this is the way to go, but I have only heard talk of open ended tickets but haven't seen a way to buy them online. I suppose you may have purchase offline. Or is it possibly cheaper to buy for set dates and then pay some sort of penalty for making a change?

Thanks!

Most tickets these days are either valid for 3 ,6 or 12 months. Some airlines have penalties for change of date and others dont.

If you have a look online for a flight you are interested in, take a look at the the Fare Terms and Conditions you/ll find both the validity and penalties for change of date.

Ive always bought the ticket with set dates and then changed later if required.

I have flown one year open return many times. I have alway booked off line. sometimes it cost a bit extra (30$US) extra and sometimes not....sometimes even more. When you talk to agents just tell them you want a ticket with one year return and they'll quote you the price. Some tickets can not be made open return and some have it as an option. I've never had a problem booking my return except for one time when I flew United. It was when they were having financial problems awhile ago and they were really screwed up and rude to me. I'm just about to go into a rant about United but I won't.......good luck in your travels!!!

Some years ago (about 15) I used to work in Iceland. I always bought an open return ticket in BKK for BKK-Copenhagen-Return ticket. Then a year or so later I would make return reservation Copenhagen-BKK. Had to do this offline at airline ticket office. Airlines I used were SAS, Singapore, and Thai. Never had a problem. Also avoided adding Euro ticket Tax to ticket because my Thai travel agent never added Tax. So I saved a few dollars on tax. Not sure if that would work today, however.

My preferred airline had a number of ticket classes, but very little explantion about the differences, time frames, or penalties associated with them.
