PHEU THAI'S CLAIM

No blacklist of government's opponents : PM

By THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday denied that his government had put together a blacklist with 212 people for surveillance, saying the opposition Pheu Thai Party was trying to attract publicity that could lead to unnecessary conflict.

"I insist that there's no such thing. It's not the government's policy. I asked many people including Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban," he said.

The Pheu Thai Party has claimed the blacklist features all members of the Shinawatra and Damapong families, key Pheu Thai Party leaders, MPs, ministers of the People Power Party and Thai Rak Thai Party when they were in power, the red-shirt leaders, business leaders, and military and police officers.

I'M ON THE BLACKLIST: MP SAKDA

Pheu Thai Party MP Sakda Kongpet (Roi Et) said he was one of the blacklisted people and three days ago, a group of five men came to party headquarters and asked who his aides were. He said his niece also told him on Saturday that his two dogs started barking at 3.30am and he saw a man step out of a pickup truck and take a picture of his house.

He said he would ask the interior minister for permission to carry a gun for protection.

Pheu Thai MP Surapong Towichakchaikul (Chiang Mai) said some names on the blacklist had complained that people who looked like military men had tried to get information from MPs' aides about the whereabouts of the MPs,even when they were just going to get a haircut. He said it was a serious violation of human rights.

A Democrat Party MP urged security agencies to revoke the bail of red-shirt leaders on grounds that it appeared they might incite unrest like during the Songkran riots.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva warned the red shirts that they would be breaking the law if they blocked traffic when they rallied in Bangkok. They were entitled to demonstrate peacefully within the framework of the law, he said.

CONCERN OVER RED SHIRT RALLY

Democrat Party MP Pramual Aimpea (Chon Buri) expressed concern for the rally planned by the red shirts today, saying security agencies must prevent a repeat of the Songkran rampage and cancel the bail of those arrested in connection with the uprising.

"If the red shirts don't have their leaders, they can't instigate turmoil. I don't understand why police do nothing when they know these people are going to set our house on fire and why they have to wait till people die or get injured first," he said.

Dittaporn Sasasamit, spokesman for the Internal Security Operations Command, said the agency had been planning to prevent any mayhem by the red-shirt rally on March 12 through intelligence measures and the prevention of any campaigns in schools to cause chaos. The plan may be adjusted according to the situation.

Payap Panket, a red-shirt leader in Sing Buri, called a meeting of red-shirt leaders from eight central provinces to organise a rally next Monday to mobilise the masses to join a huge protest in Bangkok.

Police have stepped up security for Bangkok Bank branches in Ang Thong following bomb attacks on the bank's branches in Bangkok.

More spin.

Of course there are known trouble makers and they are being watched.

A "Black List" implies a ban or not being allowed entrance etcetera.

Like the government needs to have some fool in a pickup truck

photograph his house at 3:30- am... NOT.

More likely casing the place for a robbery

What was HE doing up at that hour, yabba?

Or maybe just super paranoid 'window hanging'.

Offcourse they are blacklisted as they should be! In any other country where MP skipping parliament sessions to run over the border and handing over security documents to foreign governments would be treated as spies and punished accordingly.

What a JOKE!

<<<??? excuse me, where do airports fit in there, AND international conferences fit in with this line of 'thinking'???

Can somebody explain why the leaders of the Yellow AND the Reds are NOT in jail?

Are they classed as terror groups? WHY NOT?

Would you want to be on the same plane where Sondhi was given tea instead of coffee??? Who knows WHAT he would do? Seriously, if you saw red OR yellow shirts leaders in the ticket line, you WOULD ask for another flight, right!?

The main, deep root reason why Thailand is on travel warnings is they cannot discipline their criminal gangs and terrorists [aka politicians].

ALSO, in any other country anybody who pulled a terror raid and occupation of an International airport would be doing decades of hard time. Can you HOLD that thought??? huh?

Anti-airport expansion protesters invaded and block Heathrow (or was it Gatwick),

and they got a few months and lots of press. A mass take over is not the same thing

as a clearly violent attack aimed to cause pain and suffering.

Most countries judiciaries differentiate between large sit ins and actual violent attacks.

And this maybe part of the problem / delay with this airport legal case to come.

I firmly believe PAD et al will get their day in court and will not come up roses.

But remember Mumbai attack was same week

and Suvarnabumhi and Mumbai looked very very different.

Whatever you think about Thaksin at least he has got the guts to put his money where his mouth is.

Say no more.

:) Thaksin put his money where his mouth is? You mean in Dubai?

This thread is about a "blacklist" of opposition to the current government that is ill-defined by the people claiming it. The last "blacklist" that I am aware of at all was in 2003 when, under Thaksin's "war on drugs" people were put on lists and then murdered.

I would assume that the people calling for violence and armed agitation in Thailand are being watched. One would assume that anyone openly talking about violence on the streets as a goal would be considered criminals

As for the fully off-topic issue of the PAD leadership getting their day in court, it is scheduled right now. The courts may be petitioned for a delay again and if things turn more violen or if there are extenuating circumstances I would expect such a delay to be granted. The difference I suspect that exists is that people like Chamlong Srimuang won't skip the country even if they are convicted. (unlike Pol Lt Col and convicted felon Thaksin Shinawatra.)

Not all all,

more a food poisoning silence. TIT.

Not that you care if I am sick or well.

I put my money where my mouth is when it MAKES SENSE TOO...

Thaksin I can't say the same about. Uganda Go Lottery...

LOL. nice classy act.

I don't expect PAD to get in court for final trial under the typical 2 years + or -

most things, including Thaksins cases all seem to take.

So to say 2 years and mean December 2010, no I won't bet for that.

Just like this Feb 26 case dragged on and on with delays etc.

Betting needs to be done with logic, not just on a dare.

Oh, I feel oh so sullied by CLOTS approbation....not.

I can easily see Chamlong sitting in meditation in his cell and considering everything under the sun,

and after his term coming out a more peaceful and centered being. I suspect he has long felt the need

to pay penance, for his early backing of Thaksin and bringing him into the political sphere, as he did in the past.

CLOD -- again this thread is about a "blacklist"

But I am still wondering why you think Thaksin hiding out in Dubai is "putting his money where is mouth is" ?

edit --- and perhaps you would explain how silence can be a strawman ?

nah forget it ..... to understand fallacious arguments you would need to understand what is needed for a real debate :)
