Design In Tile Pool Bottom

Featured Replies

I will be making a dolphin image on bottom of pool. first idea is to use full 4"x4" tiles but curved sides of image would bevery 'stepped" looking. First attempt to cut tile produced ragges edges that are not acceptable. Another thought is to use 1" tiles to try and smoothe out edges.Any thoughts will be appreciated. i am wondering if it is possible to cut these tiles correctly as the shiny, glassy finish is what is causeing the problem.

Is the surface area where you want to put it flat?

Are you a tiler? have you tiled before?

If not get a professional in to do the pool design.

Hi, we tiled approx 22 pools last year. Acrylic glazed tiles (Muifah, L-thai, Kera) are very difficult to cut for a pattern. Even the sharpest angle grinder will leave saw teeth marks. Impossible.

We have had some very limited success using TCI local tiles. These are thinner, oven baked clay tiles I believe. Even then though, we have issues in the field cutting for a pattern. Here is a pattern that we easily did using square tiles (customer's idea).

If you are really intent on the dolphin though, there are two ways - 1. use tiny mosaic tiles in the pattern 2. measure, plan the tiling, and order cut tiles from a tile factory (there are quite a few in Thailand). Good luck!

We have the acrylic glazed tiles and will be using the mosiac 1"x1" tiles to try and round out curves. Have seen an example and is OK

Hi, did you ever work this out? Would love to see pictures...

Dolphin design would be great but I would suggest if you can try the aquarium pool tiles. The blue one. There is also a dolphin there and other fishes. It feels like you are really in an aquarium swimming with other different fishes.
