Buying A Lawn Mower

Featured Replies

Well you'll probably all think I am crazy-tell me to go buy a buffalo or get the missus on the job etc but seriously i have a nice lawn at my house and want to know where I can buy a decent motorised lawn mower in Buri ram or in the area. Since the rain started i can not keep up with it.

Any one got some info for me?

No, I do not think you are crazy. Mind you others may think that we are. I too have what I consider to be a 'nice' lawn and I bought a lawn mower in Surin but a couple of months ago. It's a 40 cm rotary mower with a Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke engine. It also has it's own grass collection box which fits to the rear. I am very pleased with the machine and the cost - 12,000 Baht. The propulsion is hand-powered.

The shop is located on the second street that runs parallel to the railway line, on the left-hand side, about halfway along the soi, as you come from the Railway Station to the Bus Station. Hope this helps or send me a private message for more details.

No you're not crazy mate... some of us like our lawns and gardens. :o

I bought an electric mower complete with grass catcher in Tesco Lotus for about 5,500 THB... it comes with a good long (about 30m) heavy duty extension lead and has 3 adjustable height settings. It does an excellent job and I don't have to worry about fuel or oil.

Maybe you could try in Nakhon Ratchasima... just up the road from you.

Thanks guys-good info. Yes Jai dee I enjoy my garden . I have about 60m2 of good quality lawn, a good vegetable patch which supplies our needs and some good palms, trees, border plants etc. i have my own bore and pump so no water problems during the dry.

Cheers and thanks. Heading back to work in Aceh this week but will keep you both posted.

Bicko, I dont think youre crazy, but Im sure some of your neighbors will. I bought one of those Briggs and Stratten mowers that you get in the US for $99. It cost $250 in Khon Kaen!

The first time I used it, I started around the house, on the second trip around, I noticed the old man next door woke up to see what I was doing. Then on each trip around, it seemed another person was standing there to see the crazy farang pushing the machine in the 100 degree heat!

I mow almost 3 rai! It really looks nice and now all of my neighbors have lawns. They noticed how nice it looks and its not muddy in the rain or dusty in the dry season. Once some people were visiting our neighbors and asked if our house was a goverment building because of the lawn and the landscaping.

Now if I could just get them to pick up the trash along the road like I do...

Yep interesting point tatom. I get plenty of advice about gardening from across the fence but it's a different story when it comes to doing anything. Fortunately my wife is a hard worker and she loves the garden as much as I do so we keep things in shape.

The lawn mower exercise will create some interest in our street I'm sure.

A funny aside I have a very small lawn maybe 25 ft x 15 ft. I had the great idea of buying a push mower, then attaching the housekeeper or wife LOL anyway what I found was I was going to have to pay 4500 baht for a push mower, seems they are imported and it isn't much more for a power mower. Wife fought me on it, the housekeeper didn't. It was funny they found a guy to mow it for 50 Baht when I brought the attachment issue. Were renting right now,, but when I buy it will be among the things purchased. Fortunately they ara available all over Udon.
