Interior Ministry confirms to use Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act

BANGKOK (NNT) –- The Permanent Secretary for Interior confirmed the use of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550 (A.D. 2007) for better efficiency of government’s supervision of the rally.

The Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Manit Wattanasen, cited that the Civil Defense Act, B.E.2522 has been replaced by the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550 since this act was publicized in the Royal Gazette on 7 September 2007. Such act should also come into force during the mass rally made by the UDD on 12-14 March under the provincial governors’ instruction.

The act defines disaster as any of these; fire, storm, strong wind, flood, drought, epidemic in human/animals/aquaculture/plants, and other public disaster natural disaster or human-made disaster, accidents or all other incidents that affect life, body, or property of the people, and of the government. In this regard, air threats and sabotages are also included.

Mr Manit stated that all provinces were tasked to set up the administrative center for situation monitoring and related personnel have been stressed to strictly guard all important sites.

Appears there are now a few pre-emptive strikes underway courtesy of the government. Shame they didn't keep their strategy quite until Saturday and then hit any trouble makers so hard they wouldn't have known what hit them.

They, (the govt., via Prem's "friend" (in charge of that base - not too obvious is it...)) have a good amount of ammo and a few grenades, so, yes, Artisi - I would advise a lot of Bangkokians to stay inside, high up and / or wear a good amount of Kevlar after the 13th.

I am amazed they don't include BO, bad breath and durians in hotels.

Well I woud have thought trying to feed 1,000,000 people should be enough to end these rallies... No loo's. limited water, lotsa heat and flies, and hunger without a burger joint in sight on the road in to town. Kinda feels like home.

But if there is any threat to "people, property and Government" then so be it. Not our place as Farang to intervene and right now that may well be a saving grace for any stragglers who go out to 'see' what is happening. As is said, pull one's head in and stay on the high ground!

Why didn't they do this when the "YELLOW SHIRTS" Did what they did? Gee! Sounds like the government is still on one side only. Just like with the past governments.
