I didn't make up this list, but it struck me as being pretty true, so I thought I'd post it here to enlighten anyone who needs enlightening on the matter, and to see what you guys think.

Whoever created the illusion that a woman who works in a sex establishment or freelances to make money by spreading her legs is not a prostitute is blind.

Myth #2: "Thai Bar Girls Are Looking For A Prince Charming To Rescue Them"

Thai bar girls' number one priority is taking care of themselves and their families. And their only method of taking care of themselves and their families is with money. Despite the fact that Thai bar girls are poor, they are quite happy living in their beautiful country. In addition, Thai bar girls enjoy indulging in their wonderful culture and have no need to find a prince charming to rescue them from their current situation.

pretty much spot on. The problem with lists like these is that to those of us who have lots of experience in Thailand (and a lack of self delusion) the points here are self evident. However, the guys who don't believe these things will never willingly have their eyes opened. They will continue to believe whatever fits their fantasy picture of Thailand. For some guys it's easier to tell themselves that girls like older men and that they aren't prostitutes. It tempers their guild and/or self loathing.

To add to the one point though.... the one about thai bargirls having thai boyfriends. Most foreigners have NO IDEA how close they are to this yet they don't see it. I have many (non sexual) friends who are gogo and bar girls who I have conversations with, and a good 80% have thai boyfriends, and of those, a good portion of the time the boyfriend WORKS AT THE SAME BAR. So for example, the guy out front telling you about cheap draft beer is your tilac's boyfriend, or maybe the DJ.

The other thing that a lot of farangs will be shocked to know is that a LOT of the girls have boyfriends who are NOT gar, but who work in boy bars and go and have sex with men for money. Yes, I know, I asked the same question - "if they're not gay how could they possibly go with men?" but several girls have assured me it's true, and that they don't consider it to be a huge deal since it's "only for money". They compartmentalize it and rationalize it away, much like we farangs do about the items in your list...
