How about the Top North Hotel? Right in the action near Thapae Gate and just down the road from motorbike shops (Moon Muang). Somewhere around 6/800 baht ish I think... has pool and parking:

Inside the moat/that side of Ping river is soooo overrated! :D Sorry guys. Loud, lights, busy, and too many tourist for my taste.

If you dont mind being slightly more out (basically one big block east of the Ping river) Immeco might be a nice place for you. Its a hostel/hotel with a posh super relax feeling. Still close to town enough for a quick 5 min ride in, parking, swimming pool. Kind of the resort feeling in the middle of Chiang mai. And hostel prices too.

I cant rave enough about this place. But be warned.. there's alot of plants here so quite a bit of mosquitoes. Nothing an electric swatter cant fix though. :)

They have another hotel across from Thapae gate too. but its hotel prices.

I doubt if the op is all that interested in your taste :D

That place does look pretty good for the money though, although is in a bit of a naff part of town for a first-timer.
