And this one for Lopburi

The Pen Thawat Vineyard in tambon Khok Toom is another attraction. It's owned by Jongrak Ketusing and specialises in grapes that are best eaten fresh. It also sells grape juice which come in various blends such as Black Opal, Rouge Perlette, Crimson Thomson, Muscat, White Malacca and Cardinal.

Here are two more links:

I have tasted the Chateau de Loei Chenin blanc twice.

My first experience in 1998 was frustrating.

Giving the vintage 2003 a new chance some weeks ago (at The Hourglass Bar, Novotel, Phuket) I was surprised by its clean, fresh and fruity flavours, reminding me of a Riesling.

The Syrah, however, stills needs some improvement until it can compare to standard Australian reds.

Interesting thread...

Any of the self-confessed winos want to give an appraisal of the drinkable wines they have discovered so far in Thailand?

Which are readily available without going to the vineyards? (ie which are available through commercial distributors?)

Any comments appreciated...

SVB :o

ps I prefer whites. In Oz I like reds, but its too d*mn hot here.....

That was a nice direction Daniel. A little "off" as the article mentioned that Juldis Resort & Spa is home to Khao Yai Winery. It's about 15 km further. Road signs not that clear. Visited it today. It's huge and well taken care of. Very nice restaurant. Also went to the Granmonte Vineyard closeby (5 km or so). This is much smaller (100 rai compared to 2000), but wines seem very good.

Worth a day trip. Little over 2 hrs from BKK direction Khao Yai park entrance.

More to follow on next trips.

For more info, PM me.

Thx for the feedback Wim, sincere apologies about the miscue and hope you enjoyed the trip on the sum. Coincidentally, I note BK Magazine devoted a full 6 pages on the area in their May 20th edition, Excellent article, much more in depth. Maybe scout around for a copy in Bangers somewhere? I think we'll have to do a full section on it in the future (say July or August) and would like your comments. Did you take any photos per chance?
