A goal apiece for Adisak and the peerless Ali Diarra after half time were enough to give FC Phuket a priceless win over league leaders Satun United at Surakul Stadium last night.

The Southern Sea Kirin were in the asendency from start to finish and rarely allowed the early pace setters a sight at goal.

Imposing midfielder Diarra was the star performer of the night, disrupting the play of Satun, creating opportunities for the home side and getting on the score sheet himself.

From the kick off FC Phuket put the visitors on the back foot, creating a series of opportunities and came closest to opening the scoring when the Satun keeper tipped an effort over the cross bar in the opening 10 minutes.

Phuketian Anurak Petluan, restored to the starting line up, also went close, hitting the cross bar with a freekick late in the first half.

A record crowd for a FC Phuket home match saw the home side waste a number of opportunities, but the vociferous home support, lead by the Storm Riders, never let up.

Last season, FC Phuket would have lost this game, but there is a new resolve in 2010 and the home side deservedly took the lead midway through the 2nd half when Diarra smashed the ball home from close range to send the crowd wild.

A goal down, Satun started to work their way back into the match and threatened an undeserved equaliser until Adisak scored his third goal in the last 2 home matches to secure the points and continue FC Phuket's unbeaten start to the season.

FC Phuket now sit at the top of the Thailand Regional Division 2 South with three wins and 2 draws on the back of the result between FC Phuket and Phattalung being altered from a draw to a home win on account of player irregularities from Phattalung...

Good times at Surakul Stadium. Next home match is Sunday, March 21, kick off 6pm....

SouthernSeaKirin or anyone else who knows,

How does this league work in the national scheme of things? If a team is top of their division at the end of the season do they have to then play the top teams of other areas of the country?

Many thanks,

Mak

Hi Mak,

You're right. If a team finishes top of any of the regional division 2s they go into a playoff - i think it's five teams. Last season narratiwat went to the playoffs and got promoted from the South to Division 1.

After that its a simple case of promotion to the Premier League.

The top team in Division 2 north is Chiang Mai United, 6 wins out of 6 and clear by 5 points, come on the Lanna tigers and hope to see Phuket in the play offs to get to division 1 at the end of the season. :):D
