Ok. I finally decide to buy new one after looking the second hand price for Yaris and Vios

Yaris is my first choice, but when I decided to buy new one I am rethinking why not Vios? its big and beautiful and cheaper than Yaris too..

Small car is my passion, easy to park and cute...

If you (all) were me.. what do you prefer and your thoughts?

BTW, I will look for offers in Motor show next week to buy new one ...

I had the same dilemma a few years ago - I liked the look of the yaris more and driving it was surprisingly pleasing - felt like a medium sized car - especially the radius it could turn - but, we are a family of three who like camping and the yaris falls short on the boot space - So we bought a Vios and it was a wonderful car to drive - light on fuel, powerful enough for city driving and long distance, not too big for the soi and its daily traffic of people, dogs and noodle stands.

We really loved that car, but finally sold it cause it was not worth having a car one actually only uses over a weekend.

Perhaps also look at the new Nissan March if you like - it looks promising and its the direction cars are going - very compact and kinda green.

all the best with your choice..!

Thanks for your ideas...

Nissan March.. still not leaping in to Nissan .. planing to stick to Toyota or Honda...

The Vios and Yaris are essentially the same car, but one with a boot and one a hatchback. I chose the Yaris because I liked the folding back seats. I could transport larger things easily, like my mountian bike.

In terms of mileage, they are going to be almost identical since they have the same engine, same body, and about the same weight. Mine is for sale BTW. :)

Why you are selling your Yaris?

I am interested in white or Black color only :D

Money. I love the car, but something has to give now that the cars expenses are purely my own. It's financed.

I chose, or rather agreed to, red because white is just way to popular. I like black but it is also very popular and very very hot. Most of the cars I have owned in my life were red or black. Red was something the now ex-gf and I could agree on. She liked it because it represented her political ideology. :)

I went to showroom last week, by bargaining (on options).. they came 10K down than actually price.

But I got a Thai friend who is really in to car and mechanics who negotiated , he suggested that we wait until motor show next week and see...

Black is my go go choice... but.. I may go for white due to heat factor...

What kind of Problem you had with Vios?

Better I am aware of that...

Having driven both I prefer the Yaris. On the open road I found the auto Vios constantly having to change down. Which became annoying. Under powered or gear ratios I don't know.

The small car I was impressed with was the new model Honda City.

Enjoy your new car.

despite the problems at first, the car is adequate for a 1500cc engine, will reach 160 km at ease. with lots of leg space front and back.

I am quiet hearing some thumbs up for Mazada...

but I have a practical friend who have Mazada SUV... and he is paying a lot for fixing.. which empty his pocket every month... May be unlucky guy..

I am still cautious on Mazada...

That is my only complaint about the Yaris/Vios. The cab forward design puts the front of the door frame right in my line of sight. Makes me really struggle to see whats behind it especially on right turns. The other day I nearly killed a girl on a motorbike who managed merge into traffic and stay in the blind spot for several seconds.

i have to say, i have many complaints regarding the vios, but never struggled to see in front 3 inch blind spot, vision good for me.

I'm sure your aware a blindspot gets bigger farther you get from your eyes. E.G. That "3 inch blindspot" becomes a 3 foot blind just a few meters from the car, and a 3 meter blindspot a few meters past that.

Posted

i tend to sit in the front seat when i'm driving, not in the boot.

i think you will find the closer to the blind spot you sit, the more your vision will be blocked.

Both are nice but I wouldn't buy either. I recommend you get the new Honda Jazz. I bought ours in June 2009. Great car. Take a look at it before you buy the Toyota.

Jazz is definitely a global hype in design (Top selling car in UK too).

With new design, lot of room inside...

how do you think of maintenance cost? can you use all local parts? or have to wait for Honda only?

Jazz, City, Vios and jazz are all made in Thailand from mostly Thai made parts. Spareparts are cheap and easily available from maindealer or pirates

Yes, you are right..

The beauty of Toyota is, their parts are available with local suppliers (no need to be authorised), before for Honda, we need to get from Honda only.. which are expensive.. with Jazz being new design... I still doubts about spare parts cost...

Toyota usually has less expensive spareparts than Honda even at maindealer. For instance some of the Toyta/Honda models use same brakes from Nissin, cheaper from Toyota, even if they are identical with the Honda part.

In addition its more easy to find pirate parts for Toyota, but they are often of questionable quality. Used pirate brake pads on a 3 year old Jazz, terrible brakes and just had to replace them with another brand

If there is any question as to which car, Honda or Toyota, is less expensive to own and maintain, just compare the number of Taxis that are Hondas versus the number that are Toyotas. The guy that drives me to the airport (in a Toyota) tells me that it is because of the cost of parts and maintenance. I am sure he is right. I think Hondas are excellent cars, but if cost of ownership and maintenance is a significant concern in the purchase of a car, then Toyota should be the chosen one.

agree

besides, Honda dosent want to sell taxis, so they do not discount to taxi owners. HQ policy.

That's the sentiment or catchy in Thailand...

Some Thai's ... are reluctant to buy Toyota as they see same brand as Taxi and Honda is cashing on that...

the ground point is.. Toyota is easy to maintain...

so right

no question Honda is building a sporty more exclusive brand name than Toyota, not only in Thailand. While Toyotas brandname is focused on reliability.

However, while Camry has been the most reliable car in the US for a decade, past 3 years this position has belonged to Honda Accord

In LOS, Toyota sales are slightly better than Toyotas. Toyota taxis and fleetsale contribute much to this, while Honda wants to sell only to consumers

having owned 2007 Camry for 40k km , Yaris 3 years and 2008 Accord for 70k km I d say they are very inexpensive to keep running in LOS

but OP question was Vios or Yaris? Yaris has shorter wheelbase, thus less legroom in rear seat. shorter overall. thus smaller luggage space with rear set up. Yaris more agile in town, shorter and more sporty suspension. actually same suspension, but lighter yaris feels more agile. Rear hatch Yaris or larger trunk Vios?

engine/auto/front seats/brakes/suspension/accidents rating identical

Yaris is better looking when you bling it a bit and it has the tightest turning radius so street parking is easier. My wife loves her Yaris I have been trying to convince her to drive our Fortuner so I can sell the Yaris and get a 4x4 truck to play with but she says no way. Her Yaris is 4 years old never had a problem still feels like new.
