Looking For Ideas For Small Food Business On Koh Tao

Featured Replies

My Thai wife and I (living Isaan) have friends on Koh Tao who run a very small thai resturaunt. We are considering visiting for a holiday and checking-out the possibility of opening a VERY small (poss street stall) for the wife to operate on a rental basis for extra income. I was wondering if farang food might also be a viable seller? Any ideas most welcome. Thanks.

Koh Tao has enough food options as it is. It is also very expensive to live there. It is also very small and does not suit everybody. Unless you had a novel food item I would say there would be no great demand for it. Have a good look first when you come for a visit. :)

Thanks for your thoughts. Appreciated.

Try a dive shop. I dont think there are many of them there yet :)

Not many dive shops on Tao? Really? However, it's just a very tiny - maybe part-time - idea for the missus I'm interested in. I'm a retired 'oldie'. A dive would kill me! A little food stand is all we're thinking of. Perhaps just for a few months a year 'cos we have a house in Isaan.

always room for isaan food stand. as long as it is cheap. all the isaan local workers eat there lunch ad inner at these stalls. even if they work in a restrant. perosnally i your wife speaks good english she woul be better working for someone else. l someone else mke the money and yorwife gets a wage every month. hotel dive shops all need thai staf spcially the dive shops becuase they re foang owne which means they all need abou 5 thai staff per shop

Yep, I thought the same. Cheap Isaan food for the workers. Maybe. Thanks.

The best way to find an idea for a small business, is to go to Koh Tao for a few months and look around at what there is now, chat with the locals, both Thai and farang, and try to spot an opportunity!
