Greets,

The P.O.S in question is still in prison and likely to remain so for at least two or three years. That's the opinion of the local police here anyway....

Two/three decades would be better but then T.I.T...!

However, it's not exactly what you'd describe as "hard time", I'm sure he's being well looked after by the guards and police friends from the outside and rumours are he's soon to get a few weekend "passes"......!

There is an appeal in progress to give him the death sentence tho, wonder how that will go on, difficult to release him while its in progress and it takes ages I imagine

Unfortunately, the parents of the two victims, naturally naive about the system here, were actually very happy with the verdict so an appeal for the death sentence would be highly unlikely.

Brit journos actually believe this guy will serve his life terms....!!!!

The defrocked Kanchanaburi monk who murdered the English girl got a death sentence and is also in Bangkwang maximum security prison in Nonthaburi, along with Somchai.

Can't remember if the sentence was commuted to life on appeal.

UNSETTLING UPDATE

Dad fears son's killer will be pardoned by King

A GRIEVING dad has spoken of his fear that the King of Thailand could let a policeman who murdered his son walk free this month.

Former Croydon schoolboy Adam Lloyd was gunned down along with his girlfriend Vanessa Arscott in Thailand in September 2004 by Sergeant Somachi Wisetsingh.

The couple had planned the trip as holiday of a lifetime. It is believed Adam, a former St Andrew's High School pupil, was preparing to propose to Vanessa.

A court in Thailand found Wisetsingh guilty of the double murder in May last year.

The sergeant had denied the charges and launched an appeal against the verdict.

A decision on that appeal has been made after being heard by judges and the verdict will be read out in Kanchanaburi Provincial Court on June 20.

However, Adam's father Brian fears the policeman will be included in a list of pardons handed out under Thai tradition by reigning monarch King Bhumibol to mark his 60th birthday later this month.

Mr Lloyd said: "I will be very angry and upset if anything but confirmation of the sentence is given.

"We hope this will be the end of this matter and we can begin to try to get on with our lives rather than having to deal with it. This has gone on long enough as it is."

The killer had faced the death sentence, but was given two life sentences for the killings after the judge said a confession to police - which Wisetsingh later claimed was given under duress - meant it should be reduced to life imprisonment.

At his trial Wisetsingh told the court he shot Adam after an argument.

He said he had not intended to kill Vanessa, whom he ran over when she tried to stop him fleeing, and that he then shot her in panic.

Uhm interesting. I was just wondering the other day what happened in that case. Yes, they were sentenced in record time but as far as I remember they appealed and after that I have heard nothing.

I tried to search other places but no news at all.

Anyone know?

Sorry if we are going off topic.

I doubt it as H.M. is 78 years old.

and the anniversary of his birth is 05 December.

To be fair one of my Thai office workers thought it was his 60th birthday too. I had to correct him, argue with him then find a copy of a Thai newspaper to prove it.

there's a rumour going around that Somchai is out of Prison already....Is this true??

I'd seriously doubt that.

Thailand is place where money talks.

If the right people have been paid he well may be serving part of his sentence

outside the jail. Just turning up when requested for a roll call.

I know this happens, but please do not ask how I know.

On the sentence reduction side, it is my understanding that all prisoners get a rebate

on HM's birthday and coronation day.

It all depends on how much time you have left to serve, as to whether you get released

Lol. He could tell us, but then he'd have to kill us. Its the same as all those people who love to brag about their 'get out of jail free' cards, and how they are extremely well connected with a senior policeman/soldier/official/whatever. Love to be there when most of them try to use it :D

hehe. The point of a get out of jail free card unless you can brag about it?

""A man jailed 33 years for killing student from rival school

The South Bangkok Criminal Court sentenced a man on Monday to 33 years in jail for killing a student from a rival school in 2004.

Supakij Insawang, 23, was found guilty of attacking 21year-old Chaiyaporn Jaroonpak on a bus with a 20.5 centimetre-long knife before throwing him out of the moving bus.

Chaiyaporn died of a knife wound to his heart and head injuries caused by the fall. The brutal attack took place in the heart of Bangkok.

Supakij was a former student at Rajamangala University of Technology TawanOk's Uthen Tawai campus, while Chaiyaporn was studying at the Pathumwan Institute of Technology. Students from these schools have engaged in frequent brawls.

Two witnesses, who worked for the Monthien Hotel, testified against Supakij. They said Supakij deliberately moved past groups of passengers on the crowded bus to attack Chaiyaporn.

Because Supakij provided some useful information during the trial, his original sentence of life imprisonment was commuted to 33 years in jail.

The Nation 19-06-2006""

Another crime. A different time. This individual will be 56 before he walks according to the sentence. Perhaps he doesn't have the connections Somchai had. Also Somchai killed 2 people, both farangs.

just how is one to find out if he is still in prison?

Agreeably a daunting task as there are approximately 300,000 prisoners in Thailand housed (warehoused?) in 159 prisons and correctional facilities. :o:D

Additionally, if the following is any indication of the other prisons, there's really no way to know if the guy is still there or not.... unless you happen to be his cousin??? :D:D

Klong Prem Central Prison Information Centre has the responsibility of keeping files on all prisoners and officers. Anyone requiring information must comply with the following.

1. To access information about a prisoner. Persons requesting information must be a close relative of the prisoner. The person must have official identification proving that they are a relative of the prisoner. Officials requiring information must have an appropriate request, identifying clearly the person who will collect the information. The Information Centre will then process the request. Only non-classified information shall be given out. No sensitive information will be released. Information that will be released includes.

- Whether the prisoner is incarcerated in the Klong Prem Prison

- Behaviour classification and remaining sentence

:D

I thought that anyone getting more then 30 years punishment in Thailand had to do their time in Bangkwang central prison. if that's the case he should be easy to locate. But then again I have no personal experience with thai prisons and hopefully it will stay that way :D
