ok depending on where you will be on the island, Lamai there is a bar called eden bar he has a good satalite system and about 4 big T V screens about the bar, Chaweng you have the islander and next door there is legends bar, both have good satalite feeds and have multi-screens, in Bangrak there is the premier sports bar they have 7 satalite feeds outdoor and indoor projector screens plus 5 42inch TV's

Premier Sports Bar in Bangrak is not only a good venue to watch, but if you're from a different part of the island, stay the night next door at the Samui Mermaid. It's pretty cheap and you don't have to worry about driving home drunk late at night.

Will all these bars being staying open ?

With the later games not starting until 1.30am (Thai time ) the big problem is finding a "late" bar with full commentary etc. prepared to stay open untill 3.30am plus

I am currently trying to find a decent bar for the Champions League games this week and its not easy !

Hello there, the Samui Shamrock in Lamai main road will be showing all the world cup games, late ones also, with english commentry. There also showing the champions league games this week, kick off at 1 45am.If your in Chewang chances are the Islander will also be showing them, enjoy.

I know Premier stays open late for some Premiership games so I would think they would stay open late for the World Cup. I guess it would depend on who was playing that night as well. Too bad PFC on Soi Reggae isn't around anymore, they would have been open for sure.

I was in samui for the 2006 world cup in germany - never had a problem seeing games. curfews aren't as strict in samui as in some other parts of thailand, mainly due to the lack of police.

Fisherman's Village is always a decent venue too with a nice relaxed aptmosphere however the International Bar in Chaweng is a good Bar to watch the Footy, that is true..

Mainly due to the BIB taking backhanders :)

International Bar in Green Mango for sure.

Sportsman Inn, south Chaweng just past Zicos brazilian restaurant.

Islander, no need to mention where that is!

It will be well advertised, try some of the bars out on other matches first, so you know its the right one for you.

International Bar, Tropical Murphy's and Coyote for the Latin American games. I saw England V Australia rugby world cup final in Tropical Murphy's and the atmosphere was great because not everyone was cheering the same team. (A lot of Irish cheering Australia). And no trouble too.

Ubc have got the contract for the world cup

Number of matches they will show is to be confirmed, they are only showing it on HD, the price is 2000 baht for the new HD set top box and a further 490 baht on top of your normal monthly subscription cost.

Am I hearing this correctly? UBC and HD in one sentence?

I got rid of my UBC as I only watched my home team play in the Premiership (Boro). I couldn't justify the expense for watching 90 minutes of sh*t each week. Now I just stream games over the web.

My 8Mb connection at home can just stream BBC iPlayer in HD so was going to watch it on that, it's a bit iffy though.

But you say UBC and HD?.... Hmmm......

the bbc streaming was terrible in england when the decent euro games were on (always buffering or no service at all) so i would not hold out any hope if you are in thailand

for the World Cup games.

don't worry the goal keepers will be more worried about dodging bullets rarther than saving goals. all about to litturally kick of in S.A. !

Not at all. I have an 8Mb business line at my house. I can test with speedtest.net at around 7.0mb San Francisco, 6mb to the UK....

Internet is getting better here all the time. I stream BBC iPlayer normal channels with no problem at all. They look excellent, even on a 50" Plasma.

I can also stream the HD channels, although sometimes (at busy time) the buffering breaks up a bit.

Boater - I use a StrongVPN to make a VPN Connection to the UK which gives me an IP address there. Then fire up iPlayer... 8 D
